What's so strange about the design? Lots of games don't promote Harem and have multiple path single girls. And it's not like the pathing is strenuous, it comes pretty much at the end of season 2? You can get away with playing with just one or two saves till episode 9 or rather the start of the new game file. Loads of games also split into different game files to preserve size. It's a common practise.
