I'm going to counter this with the way DPC has written out the throuple.
Beyond the sex, we've seen moments where the throuple is at their best. However, this thing of constantly being made to choose between them, and keeping points on who you spend the most time with is where my gripe with DPC's writing stands.
The only thing that's given the throuple a hard time were their personal issues, and the lack of communication of said issues. Maya's whole problem with Patrick was a real thorn in their story, so much so, that they haven't gotten the chance to fully communicate things with each other. They need a talk similar to the one between Josy and Maya at the girls' panty party where everything is laid bare and they figure out a way forward that's best for all of them.
Am I on a lethal dose of hopium? Maybe
I'm just saying, keeping the throuple together into S4, is not an impossible thing. I just want DPC to give them that chance, cause I really like them both and would rather choose neither of them if we're forced to choose.

I don't know how much more work with renders that dress decision will cost but at the party she's probably gonna be excluded from bigger shots with more people.

I just feel 2 dresses feel unnecessary. I mean its cool, but that just means double the amount of renders she is wearing this, double the time spent on just this, etc.
Just feels like wasted time and renders. I think he should of just saved one dress for different point in this epiosde or a future episode.

It's nice to see we are getting some new locations with this one and the one that we saw in the last Sage + Jill preview for the faculty party.
Was kinda hoping that the NYE party would be mostly outdoors, I suppose it still could be and this is just one of several locations we can explore during the party.

On this I'll say that my optimistic appraisal of the situation is that it could be showing how the MC is messing things up by not giving them the equal time he should be. He shouldn't really be thinking he can only spend time with one of them at a time, he should be spending time with both but is neglecting that duty, and this is something he could be confronted with later by them as a means of realising what he needs to do better.
I don't think it's "hopium" to expect an outcome where we get to still be with both because that's why the MC got into this in the first place, because he wanted to be with both of them. It's literally the promise of the path same as how getting involed with Sage, Jill, and Bella is because he wants to be with them and so there will be an ending for each of those.
They've taken a good first step in recognising what they need to do to fix things and get back on track so I'm sure we're going to see that happen and the path will be decided by the players.
Why would they be having a party outdoors when it's freezing cold winter?
