Given how many of the highest rated games on here were knocked together in whatever that Illusion game is I don’t think he has to worry about render quality for a long long time.I agree with you, but yes there is another thing: the tech.
Long development cycles tend to get outdated in the tech department. New models, new render techniques, new animations come up regularly. BaDIK Ch.1 was outstanding, best in class with no competition whatsoever, but right now there are games with the same (or even better) quality renders and animations, in a couple years the competition and new developments will be real hard for BaDIK.
DPC has improved the quality too but he is tied to the original models and the tools he uses and the room for improvement is limited, if he stretches the development for too many years the game will be somewhat obsolete, so he has a window of maybe two or three more years to finish the game and stay on top.
Yeah, maybe the models will be marginally outdated but is anybody going to criticising the game because you can’t see capillaries under UV light? As long as there’s a consistent set of models from start to finish I can’t imagine it will be an issue.
