I personally just think he's dead. And I can see a ton of different ways he could have died, that really effected Bella deeply.

Like maybe as something as her being lonely and a bit resentful because he's away because of military duty and then she gets word he was KIA. Or maybe they had an argument the last time they say each other and then he was killed in a car wreck, something like that were she would feel deep regret and blame herself.

I just think it's something more emotional than them just being separated. Maybe she did cheat? Or almost cheated? And he caught her? Or she was upfront about it? Maybe? But her reactions just feel like something more trauma related, it almost feels like she has PTSD about it.

I can't make up my mind, sometimes it seems clear he is alive (e.g. when Bella forgives him and asks to be forgiven), other times it seems clear he is dead (for me the clearest scene in this respect is Bella's inner dialogue in the bathroom during her date with mc)

The drama will be maximum, that's for sure
