I dropped Josy after she confessed she was with someone else before MC left. I don't remember there being anything else I did with her after that. Not cool, imo. Upon arriving at B&R, was nice to Maya and Jill and Sage. I liked them all til Maya did her BS, especially after warning her about the HOTs. But MC gets stuck with her as a roommate, no options for that. After Josy reappears, MC gets butthurt over something he should have no longer cared about. And then ends up accepting them both as friends, regardless. If there's an alternative, I can only assume I have to be a complete asshole to them to get it.

The problem is that Zoey's stated reason for limiting her contact with the MC was to help him strike out on his own, which was based on Bret's advice. But after the confrontation with Emma Zoey learned that advice turned out to be a mistake. Yet she never rethought her decision with regard to the MC; instead she sat on her ass until she ran out of money and HAD to go home.

Note, this is purely optional -- Zoey learns it only if she can handle the situation calmly. If she doesn't she never realizes Emma's intentions and feelings, nor that Brett's advice was stupid and based on false reading of the overall situation. So it's very easy to have Zoey who's still stuck in the mindset of "helping the MC by cutting him off" and only grow generally homesick as time goes, only very late realizing what (or whom) she's really been missing.

Zoey has no introspection throughout the Interlude and as a result her entire relationship with the MC now looks shallow. She walked away from him to pursue her dream, tried to distance herself based on the advice of a relative stranger, and never reconsidered that policy until she was on the train back home. When Bret asks her what's wrong near the end of the Interlude, Zoey talks first about money, then about not liking the surfer life as she expected, and finally of letting her grandma down.

The MC is a not mentioned. He's not even alluded to until that scene on the train - and even that is too ambiguous for my taste. Her talk is entirely of 'home,' and when she gets home the first thing we see her do is hug her mother. We don't see her try to contact the MC until after she's flopped on her bed and looked at the photo of her grandma. Given that Zoey earlier mentioned how she'd been talking to her mother more than the MC, this reinforces the notion that her feelings for him were an afterthought. I don't think this is what DPC intended and I'm not saying you have to share my interpretation of events, but IMHO the game just doesn't back up the notion that Zoey's relationship with the MC was anything more than a crush.

Now, see, while i can agree that this can make relationship between Zoey and MC look shallow, the important part is that it appears to support the idea that Zoey didn't in fact sits for months on realization the MC was such a precious person to her after all and just "couldn't be bothered" to do something about it. So she can't be accused of that.

I also don't think her looking first at the photo of her grandma and reconnecting with her mother instead of being all MC MC MC is something to hold against her, or somehow proving her relationship with the MC is weak. I mean, seriously, should she push her mother away and instead go "where's Fuuuuuuckface, i miss him sooooo much" entering her house? That's pure narcissism. The MC might be a close friend and potential boyfriend, but her mother is the only real family she has left. And her thoughts do turn to the MC as soon as she's done with basic greetings, and she goes to see him on that very night. You really think that's something a person without any real attachment does? I don't.
