I'm experiencing the same thing. Also with a fresh download / fresh play of the mega version, I seem to be locked into the VN route? There's no option of a sandbox anymore?

Apparently some people have also this issue(checked on reddit), they had to write to support and wait few days for reply/verification(might fix itself before they reply but dunno).
Authenticator is better than sms most of time as long as you don't change/format your phone(and keep the backup codes on e-mail/some sort of disk)
