Did you activate "Double your income from any source" in Laptop?
That is in-game Cheat Menu, which is experimental. (to be released in v0.08)
I would recommend not to use that option for now.

tried that already, unchecking "Double your income from any source" didn't work..may be playing game w/o cheat mode could solve the problem but I dont have that energy to replay the game..

Actually, the issue is not with the Cheat Mod.
Maybe you can delete the "persistent" File (in saves folder) and try it.

Having looked at the files, no. Maybe by 2028 assuming it doesn't get abandoned as Big Brother games do or reworked yet again.
