You forgot: 2000 years ago it was normal in Athens and Rome but a penalty for men in the Arabian area.
It wasn’t normal in Athens. At all.
If you allude to normalized homosexuality of Hellenistic society you are mistaken to believe it included anal intercourse. It didn’t.
There was indeed a norm for a young boy to have an adult mentor who would introduce him into various intricacies of life, business and politics. Very often it did involve homosexual acts, including fellatio, thigh job etc. It is widely depicted on various Hellenistic artifacts with all minuscule details and vividly explained in preserved sources.
Very often it didn’t.
Anal contact in those days was reserved for humiliation of defeated enemies and slaves. In no way shape or form it was considered normal for an adult male to have an anal intercourse with a free-born young boy.
As for Rome. How do I say it? Romans came up with name ‘Greeks’ as derogatory term for Helens. Very soon after Roman conquest of Achaea classical Hellenistic homosexual norms (which never included anal 'sex' to begin with) become history.
Eastern Roman Empire was extremely conservative and prudish society for instance.
Thus, basically, no. Anal intercourse wasn’t a norm. Neither in Athens nor in Rome (particularly in utmost strict patriarchal 'Republican' Rome).
