The sentence "story-driven visual novel" always gets me. Yeah, no shit. Who'd have guessed the novel is story driven? We're breaking new ground here.
Up there with the synopses you see sometimes that say "in this game you play as the main character and make decisions and form relationships". Yeah, thanks for narrowing that down for me.

On that note: what is the actual synopsis here? "The focus is on the main plot" but there's zero hints as to what that plot is.

So there are no vampires, mists, knights or spectres here I'm guessing? Or anything at all to do with Ravenloft or gothic horror? That title is a blast from the past for me. "Spectre of the Black Rose" had the coolest book illustration I had ever seen as a teenager.

I think BaasB or LazyBloodlines have some beef with rKnight so he's currently getting dunked on

I'm currently using Koikatsu and renpy to develop my first kinetic visual novel but once I get more experience and knowledge I will move over to Daz models and animations as well as implementing sandbox elements for future games.
FFS? Use DAZ then. Trust me, software like DAZ and Blender are not that hard to learn but the only good reason I could see you not using it is because your computer is megashit. I don't use DAZ personally but I have used it once or twice, it's not super complicated >.>

I just personally like using Koikatsu because I have been using the program for like, years now, it'd feel a bit weird to ditch it and move on to something new

first kinetic visual novel
Are you fucking joking  making a choice menu in Ren'Py is not that hard, if you can implement an MC naming scheme then you can do this

Python:
menu:
    "Choice 1":
        "dialogue/code for Choice 1"
    "Choice 2":
        "dialogue/code for Choice 1"
heck, you can even do it with flags/variables!

Python:
default item_unlocked = False

menu:
    "Choice 1":
        "dialogue/code for Choice 1"
    "Choice 2":
        "dialogue/code for Choice 3"
    "Choice 3" if item_unlocked = True:
"dialogue/code for Choice 3, if item_unlocked is True"

label:
"Wow, I unlocked a new item!"
    $ item_unlocked = True
    ## You may add fancy images or animations to accompany this if you want
Not that hard :sneaky:;) But sandbox? That depends on how you want the sandbox to work. Now, making sandbox games take a lot of time so I reckon you don't work on them if you're a beginner, but guess what, I'm also a beginner, so I don't care :D

GL dev but if you're making a visual novel please take a course on game design on like Skillshare or something, the user interface is atrocious

I assume this is opposed to something where most of the content is porn scenes. There are plenty of VNs on the site where the story is basically "these people go around to different locations and have sex."

Seeing the loser tag in genre. I hope that there won't be any NTR in your game

Good luck with your game and if I don't get fired at my work maybe I'll support you in the future :)

the good old patreon leaving another mc orphan of father and mother lol
The storyline at least makes some sense, and creates a valid reason for the conflict between the MC and the step-sister. It's not a phoned-in patreon dodge like some are.

Finished Prologue/Ch1, and have some concerns.

Minor plot oddity: after the MC's bath, he gets back into his 'kicked out of the orphanage' clothing, complete with bare feet. I find that unlikely given how May and Vicky had been treating him so far. Even the next morning when meeting with May, he's in the same outfit except this time with shoes.

Other disappointments:
  • All the women on the Estate being on birth control is disappointing.
  • There is zero buildup, romance, or effort involved with any of the H scenes.
  • First sex scenes with both Jasmine and Kristan being 1-2 shots during a time-lapse montage was disappointing - not least because of the previous issue.
Since this is an 0.1, I'm willing to give it another chance, but despite the story having promise, these missteps are frustrating.
