I wrote a big reply to this - until I realised I was shitting on my own game. But yeah, the renders early on are a bit ropey, and some of the ones in locations with a lot of sunlight have some problems throughout. I'm kind of hoping with the game out, someone with knowledge on how to get sunlight looking good will spoil me with their wisdom.

I'm anti-redos, even during development - just be assured as I do more, it will improve.

Tbh the renders kinda grew on me (like OIAL I guess). Fits with the writing and tone of the story, which I've enjoyed immensely so far (stopped at the part where I bump into Annie/Anita again, will continue when I get out of work a bit later). Will not say no to later improvements tho if you think that's best for the game overall.

Aneta is a sharp and playful ball of dynamite who is a delight to write, and that sequence does so much for revealing her character to those who pay attention to her body language, while introducing new mysteries about her to be unravelled.

When it comes to the dialogue, the goal I set for myself was to have natural spoken word, as opposed to literary dialogue. The characters speak like the people around me, dropping joining words, concatenating others. This was a personal choice made because I find the way some characters speak in some VNs to be offputting when they use dictionary English.

Yeah, I noticed. Makes it feel like I'm watching a crime show on the telly instead of reading an AVN. Tho I suppose the only critique I can give is that sometimes the dialogue being "too real" kinda slows down the pacing of the story. Like, moments of dead air and Kieran constantly thinking and characters being awkward and staring at one another can be a bit indulgent at times. But on the other hand they kinda contribute to the "rawness" of it all which I like so it's kind of a double-edged sword (to me at least).

That's how I feel about it as the author too. There are pros and cons to it, I went with it because I was quite keen to express behaviour non-verbally - but it is also a big reason the episode is 5800 renders, and you're on the money, some of them are indulgent.

My current thinking is that episode 2 is going to adopt a more VN style, with a fewer subtle body language changes, and a bit less shots of Kieran. I kind of want to get it down to a more manageable number so I don't take 8 months to develop episode 2 (which is currently 20% more scenes than episode 1, but whether that translates to greater length is not something I'll know until it goes from "scene list" to script).

After playing this, I can confirm that it's one of those "everything is optional" games, meaning the girls are going to have sex with other people. The MC can say no and change the scene, BUT it is not compensable. That only means that out of x number of sex scenes, if you don't like seeing the girls with other people, you'll miss several. In addition to the scenes mentioned above, there are others, like one of the girls sucking a stranger's cock in the bathroom.

I gave a less than stellar review, so wanted to give follow up here bcs I don't want to discourage the dev. I do think that the dev's skill set and creativity are spectacular. This game does have a lot of potential. But it is one of the few games in which I would encourage an early remake before proceeding. The main character can struggle, can feel helpless. But when it's created in instances in which it doesn't feel like it lines up with the character's back story, it just gets frustrating and pointless to play. I do like that early on you can choose how calm or not you are, but as it goes along you seem to lose more and more agency there and be completely unable to act "rashly" or "violently" if you wish to. In a more stereotypical game that may be fine, but because of who the character is it just feels wrong, and the helplessness feels manufactured given how capable we know the main character is, despite the implied broader threat.

This is also more of a semantics criticism, but it felt like the option to turn down LIs is often before you actually understand anything about them, and it would be better to have additional choices afterwards as well. Some scenes come up a bit... earlier than ideal for anyone who wants to avoid certain types of stuff if that makes any sense.

I could of course be wrong, but I feel like in its current state lot of players will just get too frustrated playing the game and give up on it, but I do believe in the dev's ability to correct this eventually release something spectacular. I can't find a discord link anywhere, so if you don't have one I'd heavily recommend making one so that you can get feedback more directly.

I do really have a soft spot for accurate combat sports portrayals and explanations so I'm really hoping to enjoy this in the future lol. Not everyday you get to see a twister portrayed well. Genuinely all the best going forwards.

Edit:
One more thing, it's probably not the best idea to leave the player off feeling hopeless at the end of the first chapter, it's tough to get into it then. Can ofc be for a later chapter, but when you're making a first impression that's not how people really want to feel while waiting for the next update.

Replacing the files below in the "game" folder should be all you need to do.

I am not a mac user, so this is for PC-only - I have no idea if the rpy and rpyc files translate to mac.

So, just finished the first playthrough, and have the one or another question to ModernDegenerate :

While I have nothing against hard sex now and then, I have to admit that the scene with Aneta in the club was absolutely not my cup of tea. Is this the kind of h-contend we have to expect in the future, or will this only ramp up, or will we have (hopefully) the option to tune it one or two (hundred) steps down and keep it more vanilla?

The same goes for Chloe, in my opinion she was just the fifth wheel on the wagon - completely superfluous.

While I like the interaction between Emily and the MC, I fear we have to expect similar strange preferences. Without going into spoilery territory, I'm right with my assumption or will this stay *normal*? The impression I get of Emily, because of her description of her past abuse sexlife, I have doubt that she will get off by such kind of stuff. On the other side, we don't know how much mental damage she has suffered in the past.
