Welp, I got around to playing this one because I want to get to playing the Rei game eventually... Assuming it's not a complete crash-fest on my system like KoM was... but I'll deal with that when I get there...
This game in the mean time. Man... I knew Gyu was not the most... organized developer or story teller, but this is a complete cluster-fuck of a game. Really. I have no idea what he was thinking. Progression is all over the place. Characters are fairly nonsensical. There's a bunch of references to KoM that will make ZERO sense unless you actually played KoM, and if you didn't, it'll likely leave you very,
very confused. There's even references to KoM IF, apparently making THAT cluster-fuck as canon, with the Virgin ending somehow being canon even if from what I've seen, that makes ZERO sense whatsoever...
It's just... It's a whole thing.
However, the worst part is the combat. Gyu
actually managed to somehow come up with a combat mechanic that's even more annoying than the previous "randomly learn shit in combat" thing he had in the previous 2 games. (Or was it 3 games? I don't remember anymore...)
I'm obviously talking about Luna's Blue Magic gimmick that lets her pick up a skill from an enemy if she sees them using, as long as she's still alive after the completion of the skill. Now, see, this is where the problems starts. As seems to be case with Gyu, his combat is balanced like crap and is generally balanced around the idea of "kill it with fire before it kills you and chug some mana-pots in between". Survivability is very iffy, healing skills are horribly underpowered and it takes a while before you pick up skills that actually boost your survivability in any way, which means that your ability to learn certain skills depends on grinding levels and on the enemy hopefully targeting someone else other than Luna... and of course most enemies only have 1 learnable skill out of a bunch so you might need to survive a while as they use all sorts of other irrelevant but still damaging skills on your party.
Yet that's not all. That's still manageable... The real issue is that if you play the game without any hints, you have NO real idea which enemies have learnable skills or not, so you'd have to try out every possible enemy there is and let them hopefully use all of their skills to see if Luna picks something up or not. There's
bunches of enemies that don't have anything to offer or have dupes of skills Luna might already know from a previous enemy. Bosses are also not repeatable so you might want/need to do some grinding before each one to ensure that Luna can survive because some of the skills are AoE and will obviously kill her if you're not strong enough.
Basically... Use the ci-en guide to see which monsters have a skill and what that skill is as well as whether there's special conditions involved. Seriously, go
You must be registered to see the links
and use it. It cuts out a lot of pain. There's no reason to subject yourself to the suffering manually.
Itemization is also crap btw. There's nothing interesting there. Consumables are VERY weird. HP consumables quickly become irrelevant outside of the highest tier because HP values become too high for them. While MP consumables remain relevant a long time because the second tier is 2000 MP or something and Luna, the character with the highest MP stat doesn't get that much MP even when she's level 90. Dunno how much you can level-up in this game, but I don't think you can ever reach that high of a MP stat...
Honestly, I could keep going about a lot of stuff... especially since the combat is really only there to pad the game. It was no real relevance to anything aside from the usual "bandits exist that can rape the girls" thing, and even then they only pop-up super-late in the game.
I'll jump into the H-stuff from here... and will start by saying that it's stupid too in a bunch of ways. Gyu's usual trademark of "girls with useless boyfriends/husbands" makes a comeback, this time with the excuse of said partners having been injured in battle. Somehow or another their injuries are long-lasting... in a setting with healing magic... and you don't get any explanation about why, because Gyu's a shit story-teller, but what else is new. ANYway... There's of course guys that want to fuck the girls and use them like sex-toys, this time a pair of brothers that are the village chief's sons... and of course there's an excuse to force the girls to prostitute themselves.
As is the usual case with Gyu, there's no actual gameplay incentive for force the girls to prostitute themselves, so it's really just a choice of "do you wanna see the l00ds or not d00d?"... which I always consider shit design for any game that is supposed to be corruption/NTR focused in any way. The progression of events is very stupid after you make the choice too, with the girls going from zero to turbo-sluts in a very short span of time. The scenes are... not great either. Gyu's animations have improved, I think... but it's still the usual art style and his scenes are eh. The dialogue in the scenes is basically non-existent, most of the lines are random gasps and moans and the girls repeat certain lines like parrots 2-3 times in the same scene.
Worse, there's a number of lines that basically show up in almost every scene for no apparent reason, aside from Gyu being a shit writer, I guess.
Also, even when getting raped, the girls are kind of "Eh, whatever" in their reactions. So the whole thing is just... weird.
Oh, and there's scat now. Luckily, the scenes with it are clearly marked, but yeah, that's a thing. The fact that one of the rewards for picking skills for Luna is scat scenes is... uh... It's a thing. The other one is access to a commentary room. So basically they're all shit.
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Just. I could rant a long time about this game's issues. About the only thing that's good about it is that it's stable. Not a single crash or anything. After KoM, that's amazing.
Might as well stop here. Thinking about all the missed potential of this game and what that might mean for the Rei game is depressing...
