More of a side genre really. Since it's a completely different vibe closer to vanilla power fantasy than NTR. Which is exactly what Hero Party Must Fall is (great game but, not a great example of NTR lol) Hell, even dlsite has it as a separate tag.

As you mentioned before, rarely do I see any well-crafted NTR story (netorarse included) nowadays since the fans unfortunately allow some of the best artists of today get away with continuous slop stories. This is not me complaining about the genre but I really don't get you NTR enjoyers. Excluding netrorarse, IMO, the vast majority of NTR games & doujins are way too low effort with it usually being: rape turned into cheating but plot forced "mindbreak" into public property (I don't get this facination with sharing sluts tbh), rape turned into cheating because of sex/drugs, or hardcore vanilla (aka netori). Also in a lot, if not a majority, of the media nowadays the NTR only exists because the author writes in the soon-to-be-slut having a BF or husband; if the author even bothers to draw him lmao. Then there are the really weird stretch of the definition like incest NTR with mother & son but the son doesn't actually love the mom sexually.
IMO most NTR media of today should really just be relabelled purely cheating, rape, or swinging with a focus on humiliation because the main focus never seems to be on the "stealing" part and how it affects the relationship of the MCs. It's almost always a few chapters of rape sex straight, a few internal & external dialouge on how sorry she is being turned into a slut, into cheating sex, and then a quick FIN, cya loser hubby/boyfriend I'm sticking with CHAD THUNDERCOCK now. Granted other popular genres are also not being inovative, and you can only remake the wheel so many times, but it's really ironic how NTR lovers have been conditioned/trained into accepting being fucked in the ass by NTR artist & authors so long as the tag "NTR" is on the media.
Even the F95 critically acclaimed "Hero Party Must Fall" almost fell short IMO of being deserved the NTR tag since it's basically hardcore double Goddess endorsed harem vanilla. The only thing connecting it to NTR within the main 3 cast is the small dick, shota run-off-the-mill "boyfriend" who the main heroine doesn't even actually like or love which is lore confirmed. Had Sera not been a legitmately well-written sub-character who was a legitimate love interest to the cuck of a MC I would've thought the writer was just trolling with how intimate Cecille and Mars are even on night 1 of the game to tag the game NTR. Granted I still like the game but holy shit I was not expecting a game with the NTR tag and a focus on NTR to be basically pure vanilla icecream with a cherry on top.

This really has nothing to do with NTR at all. Just like everything in life you have to wade through a mountain of mediocre shit to find the gold nuggets. The amount of fanfiction, manga, light novels, web series, and just general entertainment out there that's absolutely middling is staggering no matter the genre.
As you said, you can only remake the wheel so many times and to be quite frank... this is porn. I'm not looking for a 5 star novel and neither are most people. Everyone just needs whatever will fulfill whatever kink they're into. Which will often be incredibly niche and vary from person to person and typically is more than a single tag can cover on its own.
To use your example. It's not just about it having NTR or rape/blackmail or mindbreak. Those are all individual colors of paint. And just like you can mix red and blue to make purple the dev can then mix those tags into a whole new color for their game/story. That new color is what we want to experience.
I mean, one of my favorite ntr games of all time is NTRPG 2. It's story is dumb af and it's certainly not working hard to pull it off. But, damn if it didn't push all the right buttons in how it presented itself lol. Again it's porn, it doesn't need to be that deep.
