He has to be coerced to work on his games but you disagree when I say he isn't enthusiastic to work on them? No, it is not a "good thing" when a dev only bothers to do his job when a piracy site of all things decides that it's been too long since the last update and they slap the "that's all folks" tag on his product.
People already feel emboldened enough to call him a 'scammer' not just in this thread, but also others I frequent. Now I personally don't think he is quite there yet but he is very close to earning the title.
This next update will say a lot. If it turns out to be just scene backgrounds and state variations then he really did do nothing for eight months. With that kind of work ethic he will never grow his Patreon or Subscribestar support.
Let's look at the numbers for Dr. Bones and seeing as this is all publicly available information that doesn't require any special privilege or access to acquire it should be fine to post all of it here, right?
- Patreon: $1,502 monthly
- Subscribestar: $2,430 monthly
- Total: $3,932 monthly income
That seems like quite a lot for a one man developer right? Well, not really, not to me anyway, because there is a porn dev on Patreon that earns $11,959 monthly. I won't say who they are but like Bones they are an active user on this site and are a single person team. Like Bones they do all the coding and art themselves and have developed games on both RPGMaker and Ren'Py. They are also very friendly and open to suggestions and community support. Not to mention the diligence in their work ethic is quite impressive. They take the development of their games as an actual full-time job and not some hobby that you abandon and pick up when you feel like it.
That's the competition that Bones is up against. He could be doing so much better financially if he simply put the effort in. So excuse me if I shake my head when I see someone saying it's a "good thing" when a dev decides to finally blow away the cobwebs because a piracy site is putting pressure on him.
