Started a new game, but even the first orc is missing dialogue box. When I press "E", the window is empty
seems like something is missing, delete the whole game then redownload it and try again, you wont lose your progress
(also when a new version of the game is released you must delete the old version completely before)

since I never learn my lesson and thought there may have been some actual development, I've tried the current version and it's so janky and fucked up not even the first quest can be completed as the real stiff fruit tree never drops it. My fault for still giving second chances when I should have just kept stalking the diabetic clinic to eventually find a bear to fuck

I have been playing this game for a long time and have replayed it many times. And I can say with confidence that your view is very far from reality

the voice from the void claims it knows the truth
*screeches into a corner*
so where's the stupid real stiff fruit then? or did you keep playing on the same save across updates?

A voice from the void comes between your ears. But what you do after you hear it and with what squeal you hide under the baseboard, I don't care. If you like to be rude, you should also like to solve problems yourself

I mean, is this the victory you believe it was? literally went "naaaanananananaaaaa I know but I won't tell youuuu" then blew raspberries? I really hope you can start healing from whatever pushed you into believing that defending Bonfire would make a difference

If you're on an all new character, a stone elemental should appear right behind Celik after his intro. It will lead you to the exact location where a single stiff fruit spawns under a tree, and it should have a shiny beam of light right where it is.

well I got sidetracked by a metal cube and didn't follow the floating stones, and there's no shiny beam or fruit going there later on.
but thanks for replying

Metal cube? I'm not sure what this is as there's nothing like that anywhere near the start of the game, but I guess you mean the fountains with a small cube floating in them? Otherwise I would really like to know what it could be, and the version you're running (should be at the top-left of your screen)

yeah those ones that I think grant you spells later on? like hugificus nippoleus or major sweat
version is 0.78.0
also the circle with the cowboy hat morphed my character into a blue orc and the day night cycle is kinda bothersome

I see. The circle with the cowboy hat has an area that will slowly bring your character back to their original form (this form can be altered if you play too much with certain items, etc).

Regarding the initial issue with the stiff fruit: the elemental first brings you to a wilted tree on the way to the actual tree, where the area directly under the latter should autotrigger a dialogue on proximity, so it shouldn't even need any search for a fruit once you're there. If the dialogue doesn't trigger then something's wrong.

Make sure you extracted the game to an all new folder after deleting the old one. Latest version is 0.79.1 but everything regarding this part of the game should be the same on 0.78.0

for some reason it turned my character from kinda human to a bluish skinned orc, I don't think I ever used an item for that character
So I got the fake stiff fruit cutscene but never got the real stiff fruit cutscene, and I probably jumped between rocks to reach other places on the map. Maybe reaching another circle prevents the real fruit script from triggering? I've loaded the game several times in what I think it the area but never got a dialogue or anything

You can have the elemental spawning again if you speak to Celik back at his stone circle, and then carefully follow it. Otherwise, the real stiff fruit tree is on the same trail that leads to the fake one, you just need to turn around once you reach that fake tree and you will see the rest of the trench leading to the other tree, which is pretty large and sits on an open field.

tried that already, no dice. I tried every spot nearby, also tried changing time of day and reloading after reaching the right spot

Even on a completely new character? I wish I could see exactly what you're doing, EG a video, because these are issues that I have been trying to reproduce on the many computers and virtual machines I try this on and I can't trigger the same roadblock you're having, but a video might be much asking I suppose.

Deleting the game's %appdata% like Frog suggests (open main menu, go to options>system>open metadata, close the game and delete that folder entirely, then also delete and re-extract the game from the zip file into a new location), then following the elemental all the way and ignoring the wilted tree is all I can suggest.

Also... just occurred to me: All this could very well happen as you describe, but only if the character is not new and you have already completed this quest with Celik on a previous run. When you talk to him, what does he say?

yup brand new character albeit I think I played the game several years ago. Dunno if leftover data from an earlier different character could impact the new game, it's possible I gave them the same name but I'm not sure.
Celik is knocked out after the fake stiff fruit, only my character speaks saying he's gonna find a cure or something
will try the appdata thing and report back whenever I can

It should definitely not interfere with other character files. Also, I just fed him the bad fruit, had him faint over it and the elemental immediately came back to lead the way toward the 2nd tree, and I could pick the next fruit just fine. stifffruit.png
This is the path the elemental takes you through. You're reaching the first tree that's mid-way, which is where the fake fruit drops. You have to ignore it and keep following the elemental toward that 2nd tree, even on a 1st run: the whole fake fruit bit can be completely skipped.

yeah that's the same place I googled extensively to find, plus I essentially discovered most of the map markers trying to advance the quest anyways, I've probably covered most of the map to no avail.
I remember when I first played I did in fact skip the fake fruit part
I haven't cleared the cache yet though, will report back
