If the error message is "xxx.exe is not a valid Win32 application", then that is caused by internal Windows version check, comparing your version to the one defined in the executable file.
7zip used to check the exe, here it shows it need at least Win 10 (Vista is 6.0, Win7 6.1).

I had this issue in another Electron game that updated used Electron version to one that no longer supported Win7.
This specific error can be bypassed by editing the .exe file to change the version, but then it will still likely fail with missing Windows kernel functions.
I use VxKex, a kernel extender, on my Win7 for issues like this, not sure if it works on Win8 or something else is available there.
