It was rude and negative in a passive-aggressive way, and showed that you gave no concern for the amount of work the dev would have to do, with your "suggesting". I hope you understand that choices create branches, and branches create more work for the developer. Believe it or not, some people don't want choices. I prefer no or little choice, probably because I'm an avid book reader, where you get no choices, and I'm comfortable with that.
Plus, you implied that they/all devs should do AVNs for the love of it and not for profit.
