I got it fixed. I took my save files and put them in the non-Moded version of the game. (I always have a non-Moded version of these games in case something goes wrong, just like this did). I loaded it up and the phone worked, it was NOT the red head, it was the girl to say my band got their first concert on Saturday. The mod was breaking the phone call for some reason. After the call I saved the game, took the save from the non-Moded version and put it into the Moded version and everything worked fine again. I am now finished with everything until the next update.
I just wish whoever wrote the Walkthrough would structure it better. It's a mess.
Give it a shot! I'm sure the author would appreciate any new ideas that you come up with! It's a thankless job.

Okay, something HAS to be wrong here. I spent about a week reading as much as I can every day. Finished the first 4 books by now and am like 1/3 into the final book and I haven't gotten a single rhetoric point in this time at all. Am stuck at 16 (I did get point from reading earlier in the playthrough). Will I really be able to get the required 20 when I'm finishing the final book?
You get one "rhetoric" for every three or four "reading clicks". Maximum should be around 70 after all the books, 40 are usable in the game right now. I cannot reproduce your bug in the last three versions. So I'd assume ... remove this fucking cheatmod ;-)
PS: ... if you're really stuck you could move over the save-game too

I use no such thing. I wouldn't even know how. I simply downloaded the version linked in the OP.
Unfortunately I have no idea what that even means.

Windows 10. Looks like I had been using the 65.1 version. Just downloaded the 68.5 version but I still can't get any points.
I appreciate you trying to help out and hope there is a fix. Would really hate to be stuck since I've really been enjoying this game.

So I loaded an old save file and I can actually go beyond 16 rhetoric there. Guess I'll just have to do 2 months of ingame time again. Fuck me...

Hm, the code for reading is stable for about 12 releases now. So, a simple bug isn't that probable.

If you have a save-game you wanna get "repaired": go to the folder where you start the game, look for the "game"-folder inside, go there, next station is "saves", go there. Now check the corresponding savegame: if it is on page 3, top left in your running game, it is the file "3-1-LT1.save" on your harddisk. Upload it here or to my profile ("Start conversation").

About the upcoming update 0.70:
A "Filling vacancies" release with a lot of internal changes and additions
- Alcoholism added, first events around the Rock-Bar
- Sports system has been redone completely, all stats reset, a big quest in a lively Gym
- Inventory has been redone, now better handling, faster buying
- New locations: Gas station, WC in the Sports center, Shower in the gym
- Other: Body odor added, enhanced
- savegames down to 0.6 will be compatible: but automated sports reset and necessary inventory init (move to next location)
By the way, there was a poll for the $10+ patrons, where 60% voted for emphasis on girl-girl relationships, 40% for girl-boy. Futa-lovers complained too, so they will also get some dev-time.

Is there a bug that will prevent courage gain completely? I have been through several of the steps that the guides says should award courage points, but I'm still locked at 5. My instinct is always to assume that I'm just doing something wrong, but at this stage there is no new action left I can do without having 7+ courage. The casino job I got by drinking first, but everything else I'm locked out of.
Sorry if I'm being stupid, but I'm completely clueless as to how I should progress. It feels like I've accidentally skipped passed some crucial step at the very beginning, and am now locked out of the game. If someone can just tell me 100% sure where to unlock the very first courage point in a new game, in this version, I can start over and try to figure out what went wrong.
EDIT: Also, where do I find the sports store? Can't train without sneakers, but no store I have access to sells them.

You don't need to restart. The game is tolerant, mostly. Just buy the newspaper and try to go to Penny, even if ten weeks are gone.
