Broken Promises – Chapter 4 Status Report #13

Hello

Z | It’s been a busy few days. Last week, I caught a nasty cold and ended up staying home all day. That put me behind on college a bit, but at least I got a lot of work done—so it wasn’t all bad.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, right?

Over the past few days, we’ve reached out to an artist to create a new original song for the game—I’m kind of excited to see how that turns out.

Yesterday, we had the May wallpaper poll! You can vote here. Link

This month, we’ve also got something a little different. At the request of one of our backers, commissions will be something that all of you can choose from—regardless of your level. Think of it as a “wallpaper part 2” this month, but on a slightly larger scale. We’ll be posting more details on that in a separate post soon.

This is probably the 4 dev log from some avn. That talks about music/sounds. So it doesn't surprise me. I see some new trend focusing only and exclusively on sounds:ROFLMAO:

Might be just me, but if i wanna listen to music while reading an AVN i simply go on youtube and listen to what fits my mood. Most music choices in AVN´s are always the same couple of songs. Well, and to be honest, i mostly mute em as soon as i start it up anyways. So yeah. I agree. At least i don´t care about it. Same with Wallpapers. But hey, the Dev´s making the big bugs with that decision i guess :whistle::coffee:

Dayumn.... One of my favorites - the little Florentino sister... She may have the smallest booty of them all female characters, but does she still rock... Oh yeah, she does... She does not give an inch of a ground compared to the others, that is why she and her sister are my top picks... One has a small booty and the other has a middle sized one and same faces. Them huge asses of the other female NPC's lost their charm to me the moment the twin sisters showed up in detail. Either way this status report does not speak of any estimates of the actual time for the next update so no light there at all this time also. The idea for custom soundtrack is not a new thing in general since there are many AVN's out there that have a nice soundtrack either with author/artist songs or self compossed ones, but it is still nice to have something that is custom made for the game itself and you will not find anywhere else, but in the current game, so I can respect and appreciate such a decision.

It's not just you. I see similar messages from several discord servers. Everyone turns off the sound at some point.

I also respect the decisions but I have the impression that uploading the sound/songs will end in copyright problems

I don't. A good game is good, a good game with a good soundtrack is great. Obviously, a good soundtrack won't turn a bad AVN into a good one, but the AVN is good, a good soundtrack really enhances the product.

agree to disagree, and it would be good for us to slowly put an end to this "avn musical" discussion.:HideThePain:

for me, this whole "enhancing thing" and making "a good game into a great one" by adding "good soundtracks", could be compared to "enhanced chicken" - put a big (human) boobs on a chicken and make it "sexy chicken", which is waaay better than an ordinary chicken. one can argue does an ordinary chicken need (human) boobs? hats just an envy of those not into big boobs - they cant comprehend the beauty and necessity for chicken to have such big (human) boobs...

btw, not sure if any similar poli is open anywhere, yet it certainly would be interesting to see how many avn players actually listen to (avn) music and how many either put it on the mute (as i am doing by default, regardless of the avn, for example) or are listening to something else (if they feel like "i need a music".

p.s.
to not even open that pandora box of licencing issues, resources/funds, time consuming work, related delays, etc etc...all of those (eventually) linked to such "enhanced AVNs"..
just not worth it imo...

Nonsense comparison notwithstanding, arguing that music doesn't bring anything to the table when telling a story is just being blind (or rather deaf?) to reality. You could argue that given how long AVNs take to develop, the resources the average devs have and so on, it's not worth and that those resources would be better invested elsewhere, but there is a reason why pretty much every big award when it comes to movies, shows, theatre, videogames, ... has awards for sound design, soundtrack, best song and the like. Good music makes stories better no matter if that's your preference or not.

I usually turn most extraneous audio off ie music and voice acting. The only sounds that enhance my gaming experience are appropriate sex sounds but they need to be in synch with the act being performed. Over the top sex sounds audio are also a turn-off.

Without going any further into this endless pit of a discussion regarding the soundtrack/sound effects etc., I share the opinion that good music/sound effects of any type needed to tell the story are invaluable to the story telling as process and add just that flavor that no normal fan can go without. It's like eating saltless soup for Christ sakes! I will share to the panel that I downloaded already many good tracks from several AVNs that I listen on my phone regularly plus one is used as a ringtone. So yeah good sound is essential, no one has to eat saltless soup, yeah... it adds to the flavor. So enjoy the soup guys with salt included when salt is offered to the table
