I haven't played in a while, so I decided to start up another game. And I figured I'll update the girl packs I made while I'm at it.
That being said, I have a few questions for other pack creators:
1. What software do you guys use? I'm currently using Grabber to get images off of the 'borous, AntiDupl to check for duplicates, and XnConvert to convert to .webp, but was wondering if there were better options out there.
2. Is there any way to search the 'borous using a program (for example, Grabber) and only have it display/download results that are newer? I don't want to be re-downloading all the images I already have in my packs and have to re-sort through them if I don't have to.
3. Any general tips when updating/adding new images to a pack?
Update packs pretty regularly, so can offer some personal experience.
1. Also been using grabber to bulk grab images. I use Visipics to do a first pass on getting rid of dupes (it does it automatically), then run it through "awesome duplicate photo finder" which requires manual pruning. Usually will do a couple passes through that. Afterwards, any remaining dupes just get tagged as trash when I am tagging, and I remove them at the end. Before both of those programs, I have Xnconvert change everything to jpg and resize it to be no larger than 1300 on its longest dimension, because it makes both programs more accurate/faster at finding dupes. Then convert again to webp before I start tagging. You technically can lose some image quality, but in my experience it has never been a noticeable amount.
2. Anything that uses the booru search engine, as far as I know there isn't a direct way to filter by date, but there is a workaround that I use. If you look at the post statistics (on the left side of the page, under the tags usually), there is a "posted date" and an "id" number. You can filter images based on the ID, so I just find one that is passed w/e date I am trying to filter on, and grab the ID. In the actual search query, you add "id:>1234567", and it will only return images with an ID greater than that one AKA newer. Just keep in mind, each site will have its own ID numbers, so in grabber, you would need to separate collections by which source they are coming from. Usually still a pretty quick process, as long as you aren't normally aggregating from like 5+ sites or something (I generally just use 1 or 2 depending)
3. If there has been a lot of time/additional images since the last update on a pack, it might be worth reconverting the pack to a format usable by your dupe finder programs, and run it through again with the new pictures that are part of the update. Reposts pretty frequently find their way on to images sites, so doing an initial pass that includes the whole pack can save you some time/reduce the number of dupes. If there hasn't been a lot of time, but you still want to update the pack, I generally just do a manual image collection and grab decent stuff, or stuff that fills potential gaps in the pack.
