Good evening. There's a potential issue (non-critical) with one of your variables bool056. It's been used twice for two separate events that I'm not finding correlated nor relevant to each other so I'm thinking it might have been a mistake. It's conditioned True first in Ch3 during the "Better just wait for George" choice chapter3 script, line 924 of telling Jaye about Mal's discovery of the research and then awarded True again in Ch4 during the "Split your lunch with Mallory" choice chapter4 script, line 1273.

Thought I'd mention it although it's only used in Ch3 for a dialogue change so nothing is actually broken, just "reused". Nothing truly needs to be repaired (except it's not returned to a default of False before being reused in Ch4) but thought I'd bring it up since it's the only reuse of a variable I've come across. Regards.

Well, I can totally sympathize with your position, but this is a criticism that could be leveled at a shit ton of VNs. Even that Straightened Times VN where the family is living in the grungy hotel in the desert they are rich as fuck and it is just a temporary setback because the dad is in jail. Everybody else in VNs seems to live in a dope ass house with a pool and a sauna and gym. Chasing Sunsets does have that 1% vibe all the way through, but like soap operas, VNs seems to be a genre that doesn't thrive if the characters aren't well off and fucking in nice places.
Well no offense, but i couldn't disagree more. The most popular AVNs are MCs that come from poor broken homes. Being A Dik, Where the heart is, WVM etc... All broken children that came from financially insecure backgrounds.

But you're right, even as you generalized, most AVN MCs evolve to "wealthy" status. But that doesn't mean they started that way. Chasing Sunsets is kind uniqie in that it's a story of a family that owns a mountain with a cabin and Rollie-Royces. Hard to empathize indeed.

I do concede that, especially in some of the more popular VNs, male characters tend to be Horatio Alger characters. But as you pointed out they don't stay that way for long and for every one of them, there are a hundred where their rich dad kicked the bucket (usually to get them out of the way so the MC can bang his mom). Also thinking about it the Chasing Sunsets kids aren't exactly children of intergenerational privilege. One of their parents was a doctor and the other was a salesman. So upper middle class occupations. I would say that over the course of their adolescence this upper middle class lifestyle certainly evolved into privilege and wealth once their mother started her own company with her retirement fund. But they seem more of a nouveau riche family than the silver spoon-sucking pricks from Dynasty whose grandparents and great grandparents owned plantations, acquired monopolies, and built the railroads while cursing the name of Teddy Roosevelt. What is a more interesting conversation is if the family deserves their wealth at all since they seem to have acquired it through fraud and grift, peddling an expensive fertility treatment of dubious efficacy.

Seriously, so long as it's a decently written story and the sex is hot, i doubt all that many people are going to care about where fictional characters come from background wise. If you're first thought is to empathize with characters in a porn vn, maybe you're on the wrong forum? Sure, some of the devs like you described can come up with some great stories but for the most part, people just want to see the MC of these stories bang every hot chick.

The family doesn't own the lodge or the cabin or any Rolls Royces. Not even sure what you're talking about.

Another variable reuse in the same chapter (Ch3) which DOES cause a conflict of events unrelated, and the chapter summary that's created from it. Variable is bool038 and used in both Ch3 line 1608/1645 choice and line 1921 choice. Mal's security level choice and Mal's contacts choices respectively. Below is the chapter summary that incorporates the reuse conflict as well. The conflict lies in that the player can choose to have one choice True and the other False but the reuse negates the other (they need separate variables to keep them isolated):

Both of the conflicts you've identified have been corrected in the Ch5 code. Thanks.

There's also an issue with the code:

if devs_are_not_cruel_gods == True:
trigger.event("Jaye and Mallory agree to threesome")
else:
trigger.event("MC meets Christian at the bar for drinks while Jaye and Mallory run the company")

Hopefully can be fixed in future chapters.

Looks like a persistence conflict unlocking a scene. Deleting the persistence file in C:/users/<username>/appdata/roaming/renpy/chasingsunsets/ and in the local save folder fixes this.
TBH that is not a proper fix. The issue is NOT the persistent file but rather a persistent list within the file. The dev(s) rewrote the scene unlock code sometime post-Chapter 2 which had a different list build. What should have been done is once that code re-write was introduced, there should have been additional code added as an "afterload" function that checked if the list was current and if not rebuild it. I just did that on my end (since I had an old persistent from pre-Chapter 3 available to test) and everything worked just fine, without losing any previously unlocked through pure playthrough saves.

My macro found another, near start of Ch4 (my script lines are now different but they're close), redundant conditional that might be an issue depending on the intent.

Note: I simply adore Mallory's dialogue. Well done and kudos to the team.

Edit 03/14/2022: Please disregard the above you sneaky devs. The macro did find the above but I didn't see the beginning of Ch4 where you ninja'd this into the "Flashback" prologue code of that chapter at line 29:
Python:
if num015 == 3:
    $ bool047 = True
My apologies if I wasted your time looking into it, but you have to admit, that was a sneaky move. Regards.

Oh shit, game dev. I might have exaggerated the financial status of the MC... but seriously, in no way does my opinion take away from your artistry. It's a beautiful game and top notch craftsmanship.

Debatable. In any fantasy, porn or not, most of us imagine we are the ones experiencing it as ourselves.

The majority of readers of books or players of games dont tend to relive their actual life. Most either try to immerse in a completely different world or at least in something that is otherwise unobtainable in real life (like driving a formula one car or banging flawless beautiful young chicks in row).
You will not find a lot of players that fix computers as their daily work playing PC Simulator or farmers that play Farming Simulator.

I am sorry that you feel disregarded as a person and your personal situation. Maybe indulge in this game's setting and forget your miserable current situation for a few hours instead :)

Only those with mundane lives or an unhealthy porn addiction. Entertainment is meant to distract, amuse or simply be enjoyed for it's creativity. Fantasizing about being a fictional character isn't exactly good for one's psychological well being. That can tend to negatively impact one's ability to establish personal relationships in real life.

Haha, good answer. You may be right... partially.

We do immerse ourselves in a completely different world in whatever fantasy narrative we indulge. For example, no one reads Lord of the Rings and in the end doesn't fantasize of being one of the characters. Obviously none of us experienced a life even remotely close to those characters, but we still idolize it.

Anyway, I won't rant further expounding on my original point, but don't feel sorry for me lol.

Hello,
I've downloaded the last version from MEGA and when I launched the game, it showed Chapter 4, however I see on the OP V5B. Which info is wrong?
