Strictly speaking, SFS didn't say they would be taking extra measures to fight piracy. He said they would be rethinking their distribution methods, but that was probably necessary since people kept posting the direct links to the download servers for the Patreon backers. It's one thing for pirates to make their own copy of the game and distribute it separately, it's something different for pirates to compete directly with paying customers for the same limited bandwidth. I can't fault them for being annoyed at that.and if they do read and decide not to post? you're assuming just as much as the other guy
same goes for the argument before, whether this thread is good or bad for the monetary situation of the dev in regards to this product of theirs, I personally think they will lose much more by investing (wasting time) in the fight against piracy, and should have focused on reducing time between updates instead, that is if they want to show they aren't like 99% of "developers" in this genre aiming for a good milking session, rather than finishing the product and selling it as a whole, which is the only real indicator of what their effort is really worth
would be interesting to know what the real numbers are between Steam sales and support from the patreon type sites... not absolute numbers, I don't want to count others money, but percentage
and now - the real question - will this thread lose out on something from the dev deciding not to post? a picture here and there? a promise of the biggest ever update that will come sooner than ever before?
Now personally I don't think it was necessary to cut ties with this site as well. I do worry about them falling into a self-selected feedback loop if they limit their interaction to paying Patreon customers; hopefully their Discord server will be a little less homogenous. Still, they aren't obligated to listen to anyone's feedback and I can see why they might get exasperated around here. We'll see what happens, I guess.
