Hm? Update?
There's no update posted to the blog, is this a supporter exclusive?
The "update" was just the game being marked as abandoned. If you check the creator's Patreon, it is indeed over. They were overwhelmed by the amount of coding issues they had made and the amount of art it takes to make a game like this, so they canned the game and their Patreon page.

A typical burnout
Aug 12, 2024
I don't really know what to say. I've never really quit something in my life. I've always trudged through it, mostly for the worse.
Ending Patreon has been something on my mind on again and off again. But, this time, I'm going through with it. I can't bare the pressure anymore.
What does this mean for chitinous carnival?
It unfortunately means it is over for the game. It's just too much for me to handle. Every scene added to the game required more art than I usually make in a year. Upwards of 20 to 30 new pieces. It's a draining amount of work and has stifled other things I've wanted to do.
Additionally, the code base is a mess of mistakes and blunders. I've grown a lot as a developer. However, fixing the core issue with CC would mean another dreadful rewrite.
Are you done with art and game development?
No. I'm not. I just can't handle this monthly pressure to create. It's constricted me as time gone on. Slowly draining the joy of it as everything either felt like work or felt like wasting time from work. I just don't have the ability to self manage.
I want to work on smaller more focused projects. I want to experiment with new ways to integrate my kink into video games. Without the pressure that Patreon presents. Cards of Change was a great project to work on because I only put it out there when it was done.
I may do entries into Chitinous Carnival as more an anthology of games instead of one monolithic project. I still like the setting and characters. But, I make no promises.
I want a refund.
Message me and I'll give out a refund for August. Patreon doesn't give me the ability to bulk refund. I also believe Patreon has the ability to do refunds but I have no idea how it works.
I've paused payment on this page for the month. I'll be closing it down at the end of the pause (September 12th).
Well, what now...
My mental health is in shambles (again [yippie]). It's what pushed me to consider letting go of this Patreon more seriously. I've done a lot of damage trapping myself into things I could have left at anytime. I need to focus on my physical health as well as the health of my social relationships. It's just time for me to let go. If you in the discord group, it will be kept around. I don't have plans to delete it.

Thank you to everyone that stuck with me for so long.
I'm sorry for this let down,

Love this guy's games, glad to hear he's not done with art altogether and just quitting Patreon to reorganize his life in a manner that best fits him.

I 100% understand what he means by not liking time constraints. Art's supposed to be about self-expression, not meeting arbitrary deadlines, and the truth of the matter is that Patreon's business model just isn't made for everyone. At least he had the guts to admit it and drop it, unlike many game devs and artists that just keep going even when it's obviously not working out for anyone involved. I'd much rather eventually get small passion projects pop up now and again than keep waiting for one big never-ever project [*cough* Dudedle Studio *Cough*].
