Turns out after I took a look at the files and messed around with the console, somehow the game can't load a script now, so I am going to re-download o_O
Ya.. sorry. I dont think there are any solutions. I dont even know why Renpy defaults to packaging the game with RPY files. Does it mean a player could edit and it will recompile? Honestly, I didn't even realize Rnpy was packing wit h RPY files.. lol. I never bothered to check :p I just found out a week ago and recently turned it off, so new versions wont have it. It is just too confusing - and you aren't the first who mentioned trouble with it.
I'm a coder, but Renpy itself is 'newish' to me.. Im mean I've been using it constantly now for half a year, but each day some weird thing pops up.
Well. Good luck with the game.. I know it's a lot. I wrote it :)) haha if you need more crystals, feel free to let me know.

Yes, IIRC if the .rpy file has more recent edit date the engine will recompile it and use instead of default .rpyc. Including them is also convenient for people who view the script; you can get some bug reports this way you otherwise wouldn't, and it also makes things easier for modders and/or people who'd want to make a walkthrough.

Thanks for that feedback. I've been debating the idea of going forward with a hybrid approach and coding the new systems in Godot.. and I think I will. I'm a little tired of all of Renpy's quirks at the moment. In fact, I've already started. It isnt about the player user experience .. I think I want to get into animated Sprites, a more advanced gameplay in the future, and also, I really am sick of debugging renpy specific quirks. That in itself is a fulltime job for me. In fact, I've already started. Thanks again ! :)

Where to go to grind creativity?
I think thats the only statt you can't really grind.(so far at least)
Some characters teach you a bit when they like you enough, like Sandra, and I got plenty by crawling the dungeon and completing events there.
The only one who can really grind it is the bard class, then you can train it at home.

Gonzo is correct.. and I apologize for that. It wasnt meant to be gridable in the same way other stats as .. as I wanted it to be more involved with the music minigames, specially with the upcoming band stuff. For now, only the musician can train it that way, from home location. There are ways to increase it in the dungeon and from various NPCs , but no way to increase it to high levels yet. It is coming very soon, by V0.6 when Sandra and Lime are recruitable at the brothel and the band starts getting into the game. Then creativity will play a big part. :)

Note for the developed:

I love the potential, but currently it's a big sandbox with little direction.

Consider a little hover over box in each location who might be there, or what you can learn/improve
I spent far too long looking for where to buy food or ingredients in the present: the cafe, convenience store, or foraging should have given me something, but zip.

Speaking of, manually checking what the relationship or materials increase is after doing those activities is a drag. Consider a little pop up to tell you so you know if youl need to continue or if you're done.

Looking forward to coming back in future versions

I tried the game. I really like the game premiss, the artwork, the game as it is, but the -sorry- pisspoor GUI, completely unhelpful Tutorial and all over the place ressource allocation are nothing short of infuriating!
You cannot use space to advance text, no options with escape, no selective skip option, no option to rollback, forcing you to save scum are things that should not be, but you get the hang of the GUI, it a relatively small fish. Still annoying, but usable.

Lerning how to use spells, general learning advancement is opague, a chore to find any kind of teacher or selflearning without results shown, results have to be called up with a click orgy. It is even worse with supplies and creation of things. In my first try I lost days just trying to find supplies, which quite often are not found where it would be normal to do so. Or where to get money.
Another point: Minigames! I loath this drek with a passion! And the dot on the i is the trial and error side quests. While I have no problem with no handholding in general, it is infuriating having to click the info tab every five seconds in the hope to get at least a little hint how to go on without losing hours or days ingame to find out what you could do.
For comparison, I am a "Book of Hours" player. That game is one without any tutorial deliberately(!) and a complicated turnloop to find out. So I am not easily upset by sandbox games or muddied storylines.

Chronoromancer has big potential, but I am sure a sizeable number of players who could enjoy this game are leaving it due to the mentioned flaws.

Thank you for your feedback. I agree with much of what you said, and every version I release, I try to deal with more of those things. It was worse in earlier versions .. :))

Sadly, the system is completely incompatible with renpy's rollback. If one day I try to do it, I'll need to program it manually. And I likely will, but its not early on my todo list.. But , I can add space bar to advance dialogue.. so Ill think Ill do that soon. ESC is off because, well people use it. There are way too many places in the game that if a player presses ESC and saves it will break their save game - perhaps one day Ill find a better solution, but for now, only the times it is clickable it is possible. The side quests, yes, Im tackling that for the upcoming V0.5! :) In V0.5, side quests will have better instructions in the communications panel and a blue glow on the locations that are meant to be the next target for one ..so they will be similar to how the story beats currently are.

So thank you for playing and your feedback, please try again in a couple months as I have time to develop the game more and I hope you will find it more enjoyable!

V0.5 Coming Soon!

This release includes major structural changes and game-wide compression. We managed to shrink the game from 5 GB to 1.5 GB! All RPY and RPYC files are now compressed and no longer shipped separately. Plus tons of gameplay updates, new characters, and story content, brothel/hotel is thoroughly developed now!

This should be the new game format going forward — no more structural changes planned.

What about save games from earlier versions?

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure. I did my best to handle compatibility issues. Here's the safest approach:

Don't rely on Ren'Py's built-in %appdata% folder. Instead, copy the contents of the /save folder from your previous version into the new version's /save folder (make sure all files are there, including the persistent file). In my testing, this works great.

If it doesn't work and you want to keep your old saves, let me know what went wrong and I'll release a bug fix.

For new players — you should have a clean, efficient, bug-free experience right out of the box. Enjoy!

️ Massive Compression - Game size reduced from 5GB to 1.5GB! Same content, way faster download.

✨ New Content:
  • New characters: Kasumi (brothel), Orchid (Future Era),
  • Lucy story update
  • 5 new skill teachers (Blinky, Azariel, Kent, Ghost, Poppy)
  • Raven dungeon training now gives brothel EXP
  • Brothel gifts now affect NPC relationships
  • Exhaustion warning system
⚠ Save Note: Due to structural changes, copy your /save folder from your old version into the new one manually for best results. Don't rely on the %appdata% folder.

In V.04. and v0.5 we added quest markers for story and side quests. I also didn't like that renpy was shipping rpy and rpyc files by default. Sorry if you don't approve, but it is my source code, and I actually don't want it distributed freely. I realize people can decompile it if they want - but that is a moral difference to me. I will set up a MOD folder in V0.6 for those who want to play around with variables, just for now, the majority of my update was trying to get this change to work.

For V0.6 I do plan on more quality of life improvements rather than content. So if that's your thing, then wait for that.. Otherwise, there is still a LOT of game here to play! So enjoy.. and I do hope the new quest trackers help :)
