Could be. But the question is: What about her past? About her parents? How her current personality was developed? And why she is a type of woman with such personality? Is she born this way or something happened in her teenage that transform her into a girl such "low esteem" and "depraved" personality about herself?

well I mean, if you want to dig deeper, you can look at Teri I guess, and how she is going to become news host. pretty much selling herself and using others as stepping stones. and then contradiction between her public image and what she has become in reality will make her crack and subconsciously hate herself more and more.
and strictly speaking we see that whole concept of news as a source of ehm "truth" in that world is failing fabulously, so people who got into that shit while they were young and had ideals are not the same after they have been exposed to it for years.
I just hope I catched Philly's thoughts on Shanlon's character and then we will see the final stage of her demise - being absolutely broken, spit out by cruel network machine.

Her demise could really be her salvation... She kinda accepts who she is and just needs MC to hammer it home... If she gets kicked from the network she will tail MC whereever

This is just a game, but, I known there is a lot of people like Shanlon in the real world. And there is not wrong on try to help them, because sometimes people are broken due to selfism of this world. Maybe because she's exploiting an ongoing human tragedy for her own financial benefit? Because she has neither loyalty nor empathy? Because the only difference between her and Meredith is that you can't have sex with Meredith -- not that any sane person would want to.

As a dear Gandalf once said in the Lord of Rings Movie: "Nobody known the whole picture!"
First of all, Philly gave us no plot yet explaining why Shanlon is how she is. So, we don't known about her past and what supposely made her who she is with such personality you just discribed. And, if Philly thinks like me: "Nobody is 100% evil and nobody is 100% good, so, everybody has shadows inside."
