v0.18.3
I don't like to review games that are nowhere near completion, but sometimes exceptions must be made.
Claire's Quest is easily in the Top 5 of RPGM games, with real potential to become even better.
Claire's Quest offers you unprecedented freedom of choice. Suffice to say that the prologue chapter leads up to four distinct paths, and apparently the developer entertains the possibility of a fifth!
CQ is the open world adult RPG.
This is like the game's superpower. Oh, and did I mention it has none of the grindy bullshit? That's right, no tedious combat, only questing and fucking.
However, there is no overarching plot, at least so far. Curiously, this is a stark contrast from another game by this dev that has a neatly wrapped story, but railroads you hard most of the time.
Of course, no game is perfect and CQ has some flaws. In fact, it has quite a few imperfections, but most of them are so minor that I can't dock any points. Still...
Art is not bad, but... it's not stellar, merely decent. This is the biggest sore point, CQ deserves much better in my opinion. Same goes for the sex scene writing, it's kinda meh especially compared to the rest of the game.
Some of the mechanics are not really serving any real purpose besides being annoying. Disabling running when energy reaches 0, for one. When you think of it, the whole hunger/energy system does not work really well after you get out of the prologue.
I could name several more, but the main strength of the game carries it to the top despite all the imperfections.
9 out of 10 right now.
