Just shows that decade old projects are unsustainable - people get sick , they lose interest , or move to other more beneficial things - as the case with Ganassa. The very new artist that draw the the pauper gang bang can't hold a candle to him. The difference in the art quality is jarring. The developers shoud finaly move the main story and stop adding usless filers if they ever want to finish this game. I doub they do however as long as it brings money in , its better to drag it on , than try to make a new game.
Well it's more nuanced than that. I think there are a lot of projects that either intentionally or accidentally draw things out by letting scope creep happen like a bad mold infestation. They should have a mostly clear plan, drill out a core skeleton, and then flesh it out later over time. This way the game improves over time versus slowly gets closer to completion over time.
Secondly, a lot of these projects make more than enough money to hire competent artists and don't put out anywhere nearly as much art for it to be financially ruinous. So when "new" art ends up worse, it's usually because they didn't bother to spend on more veteran artists who could mimic the art style or god forbid one that is actually better even if it costs a bit more.
But yeah, the time it's taken is also clearly a problem. Again though, it's not an inherent problem to the development process as many more expansive games have finished far sooner.
So it's not that it's unsustainable, it's just really poorly managed and for whatever reason that lack of management gets increasingly worse over time. These guys are making 120k a year + whatever from Steam.
They have the funds to hire competent artists who can accurately mimic the style (which itself is nothing special) and they don't release enough scenes often enough for it to ever come close to bankrupting them imo.
