If someone says 3 people are working on it, I would expect 3 people full time.
Not sure if their time adds up even to 1if they still haven't finished this.
They are not making thenext WoW or whatever, the thread started almost 9 years ago.
Stardew Valley is a good comparison and that was made in ~5 years, even if he worked on it overtime and over the weekends too, he still didn't put in the work of just another full time worker...

Even if the donation goal explicitly stated a threshold had to be reached for the person to quit their job and work on the game full time I'd assume it's BS without receipts. It'd be relatively simple to track hours worked- there's tons of automated systems on platforms like Github that'll tell you exactly how much work was completed, you can stream your sessions, etc- and if they choose not to, it's probably because they know they're not doing it.

Placing one-sided expectations on developers is the first step towards being disappointed in that developer. I assume absolutely nothing and then consider that even with zero expectations some developers still have the capacity to disappoint.

I still remember when breeding something was a thing and this was meant to be inspired by it.
This is amazing, i need to make my own version as i can ba a millionaire or richer.

This is extremely old drama but the artist that did breeding season made this game, the creator of breeding season gave up on the game because of this artist iirc. I also heard they were vehemently against futa characters in cloud meadow because they were pandering towards the LGBT community, something along the lines of "we do not wish to sexualize trans characters", which is weird because it's a porn game sexualizing a bunch of animal-featured beings, not to mention they eventually added a futa character in the form of a crab woman anyways.

The tactic with a specific few popular porn games have been:
-game goes popular
-now we make a bunch of updates early on
-slow down
-stay slowed down until it's just a trickle of updates, but the updates aren't to finish the game, no, if you finish the game then you can't get anymore money....so you make very tiny updates, especially when people think the game is dead so you keep some of the patreons donating, maybe try to update to the newest engine as an excuse to move all the content from old engine to new engine, as to make it look like you're still working on the game

Look at games that sound mostly like above like Cloud Meadow, Breeders of the Nephelym, Wild Life, Carnal Instinct, Price for Freedom:Avarice, Teraurge, Trials in Tainted Space(?), Some Modeling Agency(?), Portals of Phereon(?)

That isn't even listing all of them, just the ones I've played...majority of them I really enjoy playing too and think could've been even bigger than they are currently but I guess the drive to fully flesh out porn games is pretty ephemeral sadly

God I wish Cloud meadow had much much much more gameplay, story content and kept with the full sex animations instead of sprite arts, I wish Breeders of the Nephelym cleaned up the world and added in much more customizing so the futa girls could have more animal dicks, I wish Wild Life wasn't just a god damn empty world of almost nothing, I wish Carnal Instinct wasn't just a prettier looking Wild Life, I wish Price of Freedom:Avarice had a fuckton of more content instead of remaking their story, I wish Teraurge fucking existed still but it's been pretty much a decade since the last update, I wish Portals of Phereon had more art differences for the tit and cock sizes, sucks when some races have different tit and cock sizes while some races have literally zero differences in size at all.

Some lesser-known porn game makers are great though, if you search Impy, they make a bunch of games all by themselves, of course they aren't anywhere near as gorgeous or AAA looking, but the games are fun and the art is pretty sexy.

The project lead for Breeding Season made a massive blunder when writing the contracts to the primary artist on the project- S S Purple- and made him an equal partner on the project.

Why is this a problem? Purple owned his own art. So after spending months collecting a pay check and doing the bare minimum and making, "It'll happen, just be patient!" excuses without contributing to the project he then jumps ship to this project and informs the Breeding Season team they need to remove all his art since he owns it, and they don't.

Since that was 99% of the art assets for the game and what wasn't was crappy place holder developer art, the project was functionally sunk. No 'giving up' involved, the project was essentially killed.

Continuous development is the 'correct' business model for indie developers. Or at least it's the correct one for seasoned veterans with enough experience that they'll avoid the common pitfalls of junior development like feature creep and bad code.

It's really strange how much people fixate on indie devs 'finishing' their games when nine times out of ten that completion is just resolving some tedious plot points. Completing a game is the first step towards collapsing your revenue stream because there's no guarantee that the people paying for it will follow you to your next project, but releasing the game is almost guaranteed to not increase your revenue stream.

Animation is almost always a red flag for indie projects. Animation is either cheap and looks like crap, or it's expensive. And if you analyzed S-Purple's pipeline for full animations I can guarantee you the work in just doesn't pencil out. Even with modern tools and shortcuts the quality that's expected probably can't be met with the money he takes in versus his potential output.

Your odds of becoming rich- never mind a millionaire but just comfortable- are not terribly high in this industry.

That's right. The right move would be to finish the current game then start another or create dlcs. This kind of smaller updates is just infuriating for the player and the practice should stop. Give people the full developed game and stop bitching. You can give your patreons exclusive early betas and fund your endeavor.

But all this implies that we are dealing with professionals here. Clearly we are not, just people who are their own boss

$15,030 USD a month btw, if they truly are only three individuals working full time 5 days a week, a 30 day month like this month monday-friday would be 21 work days, 8 hours a week would end up being $29.82 rounded down per work hour

Except Patreon takes an 8% cut, federal taxes are ~10% and they still have state taxes to pay, so it's not actually 15,000. And that's just the napkin math. I left out health insurance and a host of other considerations.

And knowing S-Purple he's not cutting it evenly. But after the Patreon cut and the bare minimum for federal taxes they'd be left with 12,700. And that's without accounting for state taxes, health insurance, and basic COL stuff like car insurance and licenses.

Again, the only way this makes sense is everyone's doing this as a side gig with a full time job.

I think most people would.

But this only works as a side gig. The alternative is working full time for poverty wages to make a porn game.

I'm also left with the impression that most of you have never had to experience a 60-80 hour work week.

Guys, I get the surprise I’ve had it too (crowdfunded Star Citizen while was in school). And this, I saw this project like 10 years ago. So many companies exist solely because their user base forgets to cancel a membership, or they’re outright scamming people and they make 10,000 times more profit than this little scuffed Patreon dev.
