They are only lazy tropes because they are always the same. In another game there was the hotest scene I think I have ever seen in a game and the only reason that was is because some dialogue was used that I'd really never seen before.

Having said that I'll confess my original message was intellectually dishonest, because I just dont like incest in general, does nothing for me. I still think it's a fair critique to say a lot of it is lazy as well - but it could be hemingway level incest and I'd prefer a boyfriend-girlfriend setup . Though at least with father-daughter stuff I can pretend it's just a random attractive girl, milf stuff pretty much requires full faith.

Jason is going to be the close friend who does want the best for Adam, but also wants what's best for his dick more. Aaron is the bully who will find ways to get what he wants from all the girls, and they all hate him for it. And eventually Matt is just going to be a thorn in everyone's side and get his revenge.

Sounds good. What I hope for is that you don't fall into the trap of overused tropes and archetypes. E.g. Aaron seems to be a bit too much like the arrogant, self absorbed, kinda dumb jock. Your main characters are believable and, at the moment, well written; I hope the antagonists get the same "love" and are more than just plot devices. A smart jock with a good understanding of human psychology and a likeable attitude, yet no white knight and certainly no boyfriend material, since women are just fucktoys for him and he might even be a bit of a sociopath (as in no empathy towards others), who enjoys toying with his victims and making them suffer; that would be something new; just as an example. The "He has a big dick and is a jock, every girl loves him" is very much overused and boring. Hell, letting him have an average dick would probably already be something new.

Though I'm going to try to keep the focus on Morgan and Adam for the most part.

Good. Many games make the mistake to have too many characters as a cast and try to distribute the attention over too many different storylines in order to please every kink. It usually ends up in a clusterfuck and slow updates, so at least I appreciate a story that is focused on the two main protagonists and the main story that wants to be told.

The whole family thing lends itself to falling back on lazy tropes, and I'm hopeful the characters will have a lot more interesting interactions without that framework present.

A good writer should be able to have more interesting interactions also between family members, so there's no reason to blame incest for bad and lazy writing; I like fictional incest, but I'm also bored by the 100th shy son, innocent, younger virgin daughter and reluctant wife turned into cumdump-slut mom.

But bad tropes are everywhere. My personal "favourite" at the moment is creepy town, as I call it, where everybody not the main character is a creep and steals panties or tries to watch under skirts; sorry, but give me normal characters who have to navigate challenges and I'm much more intrigued than reading the next stupid scene with dumb guys who just want to fuck. These porn tropes should be avoided.

But it will most probably be with one of them. I only came to the decision to completely remove incest from this game a few days ago and all of my spreadsheets of plans still need to be updated.

What made you decide to remove it? Patreon rules? If so, you might want to consider a Subscribestar account, as they're far less restrictive when it comes to those themes.

As someone who has never done anything on Patreon before and thus doesn't know how this shit works from the creator side...

Why are you telling them what you're doing? Remove all posts about the game from it and post random ass wallpapers as "rewards". You pretty much can't search for anything on there anyway so it doesn't matter. Your audience is here and on discord, where you can post links to your new releases and keep Patreon only as a payment platform where fans can support you. I simply cannot imagine how they will know unless you tell on yourself.

Is it a hassle? Maybe. Is it less than rewriting a large chunk of the game? You tell me.

Patreon has this ridiculous rule where you're also responsible for anything you do on 3rd party sites. They're on this forum watching. They're looking at SubscribeStar pages. So anyone with an "incest patch" that THEY personally made, they can be banned for. Thankfully they don't hold anyone responsible (yet) for mods OTHERS make. They are even starting to crack down on people who have separate Patreon and SS versions. There are threads in the Dev forums about it, and it seems to be kicking off recently.

Oh I'm completely against the perverted homeless guy in the park, or the mafia blackmailing everyone tropes. They really take me out of a story. I am trying to flesh out every character, base them off of amalgams of people I've known, and Aaron does have some development coming near the end of the 1st year. Though he is a bit of a walking cliche, but that's on purpose.

I honestly don't get it, I mean we're talking about fictional characters in a fictional story, not even played by actors. I really don't understand what the issue is. does patreon ban a game because it has for example murder, or theft portrayed because, you know those things are illegal. entertainment has forever been full of taboo's and illegal stuff, because well it's entertaining.
I don't have the incest kink, so it doesn't really personally hurt my experience, but I just completely fail to understand the reasoning behind the whole patreon pearl clutching.
Also enjoyed your game, kinda bored with games that are too concerned without upsetting fragile players, it's refreshing to try something that's not scared to make a tangled relationship mess.

Early days but this seemed interesting and like it might become something quite branching and intertwined with all the various characters and relationships.

Woulda been nice if when setting the relationships they'd combined some of the duplicate ones, it's fine just doing it once but if there's incompatible saves in the future (as there often is) I wouldn't want to have to keep doing that.

I thought it was funny the douche jock across the hall looks less like one that the friend.

Oh and I don't get why the female MC's mother is complaining about her makeup when she doesn't really seem to be wearing any more than her sister, might not look bad all emoed up with black lips though to differentiate her from her twin.

It's the whole dancing --> comic books --> music --> movies --> videogames (and by extension 18+ games) cycle. People throughout history have always found something to blame for why people are the way we are, when the truth of the matter is we as a human race have always been vile. They're just looking for a scapegoat.

As for alternatives such as Subscribestar not doing as well as Patreon is brand recognition, but it sure as hell doesn't help Subscribestar doesn't accept Paypal for people internationally who don't own credit cards. Although it would not help in this case as Paypal disasociates itself from adult content as much as possible.

That's the only reason why Subscribestar is a suitable alternative to Patreon; banning incest and similar stuff was done by Patreon because they wanted to please and keep Paypal. Subscribestar is the alternative that says "Fuck Paypal".

The problem is more that people are still using and supporting Paypal, a company that tells you where you can and can't invest your money based on their own worldviews. It's like a bank telling people they can't donate to the Republicans or Democrats (choose your favourite), because the bank owners don't like them, and people are "sure, whatever".
