[Review for Ch.3A v6]
While it is a very beautiful game with a very interesting universe, I think it fundamentally fails at delivering on its own basic premise, and it all comes down to one character--the MC.
The premise is that you play as a navy officer from a galaxy spanning empire, THE Officer even, said to be the greatest tactician the Navy has, winner of countless battles, a consummate badass, the face of the entire organization.
He's portrayed as a stoic veteran, something that his looks don't convey (which is actually quite the interesting contrast), and either admired or feared by almost everyone he encounters.
Now, unlike many of the other reviewers, I don't mind playing as a stoic character, I actually find them quite compelling and refreshing, but these characters live and die by their competence. And this MC is not competent (nor stoic, to be completely honest), he lacks insight or even common sense, and spends more time wallowing in his own misery and impostor syndrome than actually doing anything productive. John Wick wouldn't exactly be a compelling character if he simply sat down and cried when his dog was killed.
It breaks immersion when the player routinely thinks of solutions to problems that a character who's lauded for being a genius tactician can't think of, or only brings up in hindsight.
I can't recommend this game, especially if you find the premise compelling, because it does not deliver on it.
