Played through chapter 9 with the new downloaded season 1 as stated, but still unable to load save in season 2.

You have to play until the game tells you "end of chapter 9" or similar, then the game creates the persistent file you will get a notification about this.
From season 2 on you have to start a new game, just loading the S1 Ch9 save in S2 Ch10 will not work. The ch9 save is totally unimportant, the only thing that counts is the persistent file.
Ummmm......dev is really improving alot!
It's a shame that Claire's almost losing humanity, but I really like her mondel, I hope there's a way to make her normal.

Used the compressed version of the new chapter 9/season 1. Assumed that would be the same.

Apparently there's two versions of Ch9. Companion of Darkness Ch9 and newer Companion of Darkness S1 Ch9. I had the older one and skipping through that didn't give me compatible save file for S2. I downloaded savefile that someone offered, but that gave error messages once a while and MC's name was changed to None, which I didn't like. At that point I got so frustrated that I deleted whole S2 and thought it's the end for the game for me. Still collecting stamina for another speedrun through the newer Ch9 version...
I'd wish to see clear instructions under the "Installation" in OP as many seem to be struggling with this.

I'm adding this post to report as something to include in the OP.

1) Make sure you have installed -- in a new folder -- an unmodified version of the latest version of Season 1 (CompanionofDarkness-Season1-Chapter9)
2) Load your last (or second-to-last) save from any previous version of Chapter 9, then play through to the end until you see a message saying file saved (just before credits). You don't need to make a new manual save.
3) Install -- in a new folder -- an unmodified version of the new Season 2 game (CompanionofDarkness-Season2-Chapter10)
4) START a new game -- don't load any old saves -- The game should start with a recap of some of your in-game choices. Once you get through that and the story continues, you should make a new save.
5) OPTIONAL -- close the game and install any mods you like to use, then start again, load your new save, and enjoy!

I was using a merged modded version of the new season 1. Yes, but like Krytax123 said, it's to femdom what having MC's dad bang MC's mom is to NTR. That is, it's a trigger warning for the most special snowflakes.
Ok I guess I missed something. I downloaded a non modded version of Companion of Darkness. Played it all the way through. Finished it went all the way through to the point where the game goes back to the home screen. When I try chapter 10 Nael says "Seems you're not ready yet". What did I do wrong?

did anyone else think that a spider got into their TV somehow then realize it's the icon from the game?
Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong. Is the version you downloaded correct? Is it "Season1-Chapter9"? Did you see the "exporting" message before going to the home screen?
That's the problem...at the end of the first part, there are no messages about transferring saves, just thanks, after which you are thrown into the main menu, and the second part asks you what the fuck are you doing here? Go ahead and play the first part. The game also gives an error when trying to download a save, (attempts to resave the last save did not give anything) downloading the first part might have helped, but somehow there is no desire to download 9 gigabytes without a guarantee, and I noticed this problem for many people.
