I think sketches, with a few more details as you mention, could be acceptable. What I look for in a game is a good story, but also to make (somewhat) meaningful choices. To be able to steer dialogue and events in whatever directions the developers lays out for us.So, I asked for engines to make a netorase game well over 3 weeks ago I think. I'm currently working on it and I think I landed on using RPG Maker. And fo course I want to ask you pleople what do you think because at the end of the day the people that comes here and have come here is more or less all of my intended playerbase. But well, here is the question. Aside of character sprites for dialogue. You all can play a game that uses sketches instead of complete renders? Something like what I'm going to send, but I will add some more details to them before putting them on the game:

As I was working on the project I realized the shit ton of work that will be to make the CGs and I'm not ready to make full renders of those all by myself while making the game. Hentai_Kishi has been helping me with a lot of things on how I should approach game creation and I'm incredibly grateful. But yeah, after tinkering about and starting to make the art by myself it's really hard work so I was thinking on making the art sketches and maybe on updates start rendering them.
PD: I just noticed the comment didn't upload correctly. I added that I was thinking in doing very basic coloring. I think the art of Black Souls is pretty much on that train of style. Sketchy art with very basic coloring and shading, maybe that is a good way of still having an efficient output and maybe render the pictures in the updates. Welp, I'm happy to hear what you think.
Moving around in a hand crafted RPG maker-world can be quite immersive, but how dialogue and story is handled in certain games leaves a lot to be desired. What I don't like is having to spam SPACE or ENTER forever, reading drawn out and boring dialogue, before the story moves on or I can make a choice of what to say. Long cut scenes that leaves me unable to save is also undesirable.
RPG maker can work, you just have to develop with the player in mind. Is this boring, is this not immersive but instead railroading the player, is this annoying, can this be done differently to make the experience smoother?
