I believe they are what you assumed; Strength is used for damage, Endurance is used for hit points, and Intelligence is used to determine your ability to figure things out or negotiate during events. Personally, the problem with damage during fights is that it appears to have fixed amounts for weapons or perhaps a cap to the bonus higher stats may give to using them. I have not tested it yet, but you may actually do more damage with your fists then with a gun, depending on your stats, unfortunately the game appears to use the gun when you have one instead of your fists. I have had events that needed high Strength or Intelligence to complete, so while Endurance is probably the most useful to increase, it is worthwhile to train all of them.I don't really understand what the STR, END, and INT stats are for outside of unlocking a few choices in random events. I assumed they'd help in combat but that doesn't seem to be the case or maybe it just stops scaling after a certain point. I think END affects health but that's about it for anything actually worth training those stats for.
It also just becomes kind of tedious to do multiple playthroughs. Especially if the only real marker of progress is unlocking all the companions but you have to start all over if you die (unless you hit continue I guess).
What I'm getting at is maybe implementing a "new game+" later on once there's more game play to get through that rewards players for each successive completion of the game. Otherwise, it's monotonous enough where it gets old after the first one or two times but still requires you to be aware of certain mechanics so you can't just go auto-pilot mode with your brain until you see all the companions.
The framework for a simple, fun game is there. It just needs a few things to actually feel like a "game". Some since of progress the player can feel while playing instead of just an endless loop that is neither unique in each iteration nor are the scenes integrated deeply enough for the player to uh ... reach a "good ending"and stop playing for now.
Oooh. Maybe that's it. I never tried using just fists. I only remember that with a knife or bat, even after training STR to like 50, damage stayed around 12. I think there's crit chance for weapons like the gun but I don't know whether that's dependent on the stats.Personally, the problem with damage during fights is that it appears to have fixed amounts for weapons or perhaps a cap to the bonus higher stats may give to using them.
