Welp, I went for this next out of my backlog, mainly because I have a bit of a weakness for this particular janky art-style. That said, it's a Maze game, so I didn't have much in the way of expectations for it.
Before that though, I have to say that the translation is... a tad janky in various spots. Not the worst I've seen, but not great either. Not sure if edited MTL or person with a weak grasp of the English language, but it could have used some work. Now, whether it's worth it for this particular game, that's another matter entirely.
In any case, this is another great example from Maze of decent idea, poor execution. The premise isn't bad. The Spirit King's seal is weakening, the thing is going berzerk, and they have no way to kill it. Even if they re-seal the thing, the seal will eventually break again, and the next time it happens, there may not be anyone around capable of sealing it. That's before considering the risk of morons like those cultists which might intentionally work to break the seal.
In comes the seer that says that a child of Elaine with the King will have the power to kill the Spirit King. So our couple ends up between a rock and a hard place, because they weren't able to kill the Spirit King before and can't do so now, they can just seal it again. Even then, while Elain initially agrees, she comes back to her boyfriend and says that they should sneak out to finish the job.
Sounds great right? A race against time to find a way to kill the Spirit King before Elaine gets impregnated.
Unfortunately, in typical Maze fashion, they don't work the idea to the end. First of all, the supposed heroes of the last war yada yada start off super weak for some reason and struggle with some slimes, so say nothing of everything else on the map. No reason is given for this. Second of all, while there are mini-quests and mini-bosses and whatnot that you can find as you explore the map, there's no actual way to kill the Spirit King, there's nothing implemented for that. I thought that there might be something with that pyramid thing with the guy supposedly researching a way to kill the Spirit King for good... but there's nothing.
There's hints here and there that the Dev(s?) had more ideas and that the game could have been more... but those ideas were never implemented and so you're left with one ending where the couple seals the Spirit King again, but of course that's pointless on its own because the seal might break in the future so Elain has to be impregnated by the King anyway because someone will have to kill that thing eventually.
This is rather lame because, well, it makes the majority of the gameplay pointless. You only really need to clear enough of the map to access the events on said map to unlock them in the gallery, and then just pass time, because there's no real point in going to the Spirit King for the lame ending. There's no point in rushing or anything, because you won't get anything for it.
Typical Maze.
But hey, if you like their janky art-style and scenes, then you can waste a few hours with this and have some material to fap/schlick/whatever with. So not the worst way to spend some time, I guess.
