Honestly who cares, since there's obviously nothing official, I really hope he's not dead, again who cares about the AVN, I'd rather this be an excuse of his not to finish the game than him actually being dead.
We can all find new/different AVNs, nobody (family, friends, etc...) will ever be able to find another him if he passed.

Latest news is: he was diagnosed a terminal illness last year and most likely he is dead by now.
I guess he is not able to confirm this now.
Sorry, I meant - was someone (like some of his friends, etc) talking to him recently (say on Discord, or some private messages, etc).

Damn,i subscribed to him thinking he’d slowly develop the game over time, so I joined the Patreon and just waited for updates for a few months without worrying about it. If it’s true, then rest in peace, Sqwl. I’m glad you shared your story — it’s just sad we never got to see the full story he wanted to tell with this AVN.

As per the discord member whom sqwl disclosed his illness to, sqwl was 'working on an outline of the game so it won't be left entirely unfinished', i think that could have been what you are looking for.
However, the thing when it comes to terminall illness is that it can — and more often than not, does — end with suddeness.

Its possible the dev is dead. But is it possible he just aluded to his illness and death because he wanted to abandon the game? Would/could someone do that? or am I just paranoid. Im definitively not saying I believe that is what happened here. but..... his last update sounded disolusioned with what the game was turning into and not interested in finsihing it. I mean its the internet and no one here actually knows the dev the dead thing could totally just be a story. just saying.
