Save yourself from my kind of stupidity,
I spent 2 hours trying to figure out why i kept getting black screens at the menu or during animations when the game is supposed to play a webm and finally figured out it was because my usb headset was disconnected b/c i was using it on my ps4.
finally dawned on me it may not be working right because it is trying to play sound and bam when it had a sound device worked just fine.

note to self, use wired headphones as to not worry about which USB device is connected to which platform. does wonders.

With reduced quality also means it's not as taxing on system resources .

As for general shitty laptop windows tips:

• Are you using a solid state drive or regular old hard disk drive? If you are still using an old hdd then back in XP days you could tell the pc to cache some things with ReadyBoost and a Thumb Drive. Not as good as an ssd but it will improve some performance a bit.
• RAM for old laptop models can be cheap on places like ebay so if you haven't maxed out your RAM consider doing that.
• Close any unnecessary programs that are running to free up system resources. (Messengers, Weather Reports, Steam, etc)
• If your Main C Drive has less then 15% free space then delete some files to get it around this point as the system may run slow if there isn't enough room for things like the Page File and other temporary system files.
