I didn't know what to quote for this reply lol, but I think I just have different standards of "great writing". To me that's a very, very high bar, there's only a couple videogames I'd say even come close to it.

Can definitely have good writing with smut too, but a game that's primarily porn is just always going to be super limited by that. Your characters all end up having to exist to facilitate that somehow, and you always have to keep that in mind. It limits what sort of emotional responses you can aim to bring out, and what directions you can take your story in general, because it all needs to revolve around sex scenes. RPGs that are more focused on being RPGs while also including sex regularly can be better though, or ones that are telling small scale personal stories about a relationship or something where sex just happens naturally.

Nope, if your writing is good enough and gameplay doesn't hinder it you can do as you want with it. Honestly it's hard to think of a game that's mainly porn, have a great writing and doesn't focus on RPG aspect - i'm sure there were quite a few that i have played, but they kinda dissapeared between hundreds of others.

The one i could definetly call out is The Poor Whore, uploaded on this site - no RPG, text game, focused on porn with damn good writing and it do in fact bring out different emotions depending on the route you have taken.

While that's fair, I think that for the most part smut games don't seem to take full advantage of the fact that they're using games as a medium. That's part of why I liked "A New Game" so much; the atmosphere of the messy, hand-drawn black-and-white "real world" was just superb, especially in contrast to the stock assets used to render the "game world" map. The smut was also very nice.

You need to seek intercorse out. The problem is, that no matter how expirienced your PC is, they will ask her out same way anime girl would. Now sure, not many scenes have variation when you ask characters for sex (which to me is also major problem now that I think about it) no matter your expirience. But the thing is, in other sexual scenes, not matter if you had prior intercorse, your characters acts like s/he just walked on porn stage while following the script that they themselves wrote. Which is what makes that scene so jarring.

Absolutely something worth considering, and I do think your more standard VN type game has more potential that way for good writing, it's a lot easier to bring out emotions when you personally feel responsible for a situation compared to following a set path, though making those situations similarly evocative is hard when you need to make 5 instead of just one.

I do think there are some smut focused games that are great, and you can for sure see a gap in writing quality even in those scenes (pretty obviously so, even just in coc2 the author gap is huge), I just don't think the overall writing has ever achieved "great" status outside of that stuff. Can be a great game without great overall writing though, most of my favourite are (excluding DE).

It's a shame the author for this didn't go on to do more, they had a real knack for writing explicit scenes. The branching story stuff was quite cool too, worked in its favor that it was quite a short game overall. I don't know if I'd say it was amazing writing for each path, but it did a lot right that other games tend to struggle with. Downside to patreon model where you do better by staying in dev forever instead of releasing consistent, smaller products I guess.

Being a game based around the experiences of a prostitute is pretty much cheating here though lol, their story naturally revolves around sex

Like the lighting and rendering are all great, the overall composition of the piece is really nice too, but what the fuck is going on with her arms? I'm guessing she's an amputee (even if only half the other pieces of her show it), but there is some weird stuff going on with the fabric of those sleeves.

Yup, she's an amputee. As far as I can tell that type of fabric is ribbed and bunches up in certain areas--I almost want to say it's tied off? Admittedly a little difficult to portray that in a painting, though. Some sort of fabric where its elasticity is high enough that just pushing it up is enough to have it stay in place, at least. I can't claim to be a tailor of any sort, sorry.

Character herself has "arms" in much the same way that Edward Elric has arms--those are Super Fantasy Medieval Prosthetics, somehow capable of mimicking natural dexterity to an extent where the "amputee" aspect of the character is mostly there for show. Never really got into Violet Evergarden, personally, but the art and animation sets new standards.

On wiki it says that Arona is supposed to have companion talk about Brienne and some other companions. But in my game she is lacking. Is it bugged or are they just not implemented yet?

With regard to Valencia, she seemed a bit pissy with me when I rescued her the first time. So I didn't bother to do so again.

And so I haven't seen her in the Old Forest or South Harvest Valley yet. Since I didn't help her, will she now show up again? Or is she now at the Marefolk village?

I think refusing to help her at any point just locks her character out, spent an hour searching the old forest for her after leaving her to the imps and she never shows up.

So, is Thunderstrike still showing up on Jen as a stealable power after you have it an error, or are there versions for different slots?

Do you have to have requirements equipped for powers to copy them with Mirror Stance (something technically Ranged for archer stuff, 2-handed for things that require that, ect)? Also, do "duel weapons" actually exist for player characters, or are those powers uncopyable if the former is true? Did they ever give the option to walk away from Bunny Bitch in the Foothills or do I still have to flee before her hp hits 0? Do you think they'll do with a character like Gytha what they did with Ferruze:Actually remember that you fucked her when she appears much later on and she has a baby somewhere?

Oh, I never would have realized that, as simple as this game is in most ways.

I have no problem beating her down in itself and usually people who've done everything else are the ones who start really fucking around with Mirror Stance. Anyone know why Jen's Thunder Strike is still listed? Error or different version slot, cooldown, anything else)?

Another quick Valencia question. In one of the training responses one has to be an "experienced solider" to train her.

Does that mean starting out as a Solider when you're creating the character? Or some other level or award that you have to achieve in game. Or is it just one of those things that hasn't been implemented yet?

Just keep spamming the regular training button, then you move on to the soldier training.

Who is Jen? Thunder Strike is normal skill that you can get from many characters wit mirror stance or just "buy" it from Garth.
