One of their major points on why you should pay for a free version is the achievements. That and cloud saving (lol) is literally it.
Still could put the game on steam for free and it would cost them nothing. Steam only take money on transaction, no fees for hosting a game especially if it's a small one unless their politicies on free game have changed.

They addressed that they want to give people people a way to support them thats why it costs 10 dollars. Their community is very divded you have those yes-man with the whole "its worth it for the achievements/cloud saving" and those that see it as obvious cash grab.
they simply could have added the achievements as they was in coc1, straight in game. the cloud saving? not so great of thing. i for an example, play coc2 more time on phone then on pc.
so its definitely cash grab.
and besides, what the point of achievements in such game? in coc1 it takes a couple a hours to do most achievements(that not is grindy like amount of childs pc have) (I dont quite remember if the some achievements is added with mods or not, or they were all added by revamp mod), we by default will get the most achieves with the way game is made, cause we try all the scenes and events at least once.
and the way it seems, achievements is not sure thing that they can boast to have, they still negotiating with steam to make them...

I get that they don't wanna lose their Patreon's constant money flux by making accesible the full on patreon-versions to everyone by a single 10$ purchase but SERIOUSLY tho, if that's the case just make it a free download on Steam if you're going to keep it the same as the PUBLIC VERSION, A PUBLIC VERSION YOU CAN DOWNLOAD ON THEIR OFFICIAL SITE NO LESS!
Achievements? Cloud Savings? the hell i care for those in a porn game? is not even like a save file on this game is heavy when you download it.
The way i see it they should've made the Steam one be the public version and be FREE DOWNLOAD same as the public version, utilizing it to get more people interested and maybe gain more patreons that way? as it is...you're paying 10$ for a FREE product just for colorfull stickers.

I don't get the outrage, the steam version is there for people that want to support them outside of patreon, subscribestar, etc.
It's not like they're taking away the free public builds either so you literally don't have to spend any money.

Seems like a non-issue.
that the point. when you support them via patreon and etc, you got backers build in return. steam support I see just like the one time opportunity to throw away 10$ for the already available free build and the whole lot of nothing. and what about backers? if I already support them monthly on patreon and I want achievements too, so I need to throw them another 10$ for that?
I see this action of their like begging for more money. they already got monetary support and give something in return for you. that action only make their reputation take a hit. ffs most of you here is american/european, you lot are citizens of long time hard ass capitalism countries and you got such reaction? I'm russian(that longed for return of communism), but even I see something wrong with that.

p.s I like you all guys. you're such a good people, always make my boredom go away, when we start such arguments.

The save system for that actually wound up fucking over the other save system for the latest version of the most official mod.

What if someone does not want to use patreon?
Why not using buymeacoffee? It only has a 5% fees not a 30% one. For a one time support there are many possibilities but gating free content + cloud save and achievements (not yet in place) that cost them nothing behind a 10$ paywall is not the good way to go from my point of views.

There's also the thing that Steam will allow people who never heard of the game to discover it for the first time.

The people failing to understand why it was put on Steam are not who Savin wants to buy the game. He's aiming on new, untapped players.

well, then I repeat what everybody here wants to say. if he wants a new untapped players, why he makes it 10$ for a public build? why not make it free if he wants new players and not new money?
I can't even imagine a reaction of a new guy who never heard about coc, see it on steam for 10$ and then discover that what he bought was already free on their site...

Steam version has:
  • auto-update with every public patch
  • cloud-saving
  • trading cards and achievements

Even people who know about the free version are willing to buy the steam version:

View attachment 743675
and what about people from steam who doesn't know it is free? there no ever slight mention of it's free status on their site
ha, savin dont want more money my ass, that why he mentioned on steam page that when the game will be out of early access it will cost more, lol.
the guy from pictures is delusional, he clearly thinking that steam version will be as same as backers.

Good thing I never said that EVERYONE likes it. All I did was respond to the prophets predicting that absolutely no one will buy it.
Most people against it here were arguing that it feels scummy and wondering why people would buy it for little incentive. Apparently some people will buy it, that's up to them, doesn't change the fact that some are still wondering why better incentives for buying the steam version weren't given.

My only problem with this is that there is no obvious explanation on the page that the same version (minus the achievements and cloud saving), is available for free elsewhere. They do have the link to the fenoxo website but that'd be up to the user to see the "visit the website" link and follow it - it's not really in your face. Some people who know about both versions seem to be okay with paying 10 bucks for the free version - but that's with them knowing all the info going in. Like others have said, if a brand new player sees this on steam and doesn't research around, it's fairly easy to see how they'd buy it without ever knowing they could get it for free on fenoxo's site.

As a sidenote I agree that Savin has been more civil in his comments lately. I for sure remember him being unnecessarily rude before but the last few posts I've seen from him have been fine.

Speaking of Backers Version, does anyone have the latest Backers Version?
why do you need latest backers? it was 0.3.6. and there is now public 0.3.7.
but nevermind, if you specificaly need latest backer 0.3.6 check OP links, its have it

I'll say it once more, if it had been really cheap on Steam, I would have understood for every reason combined, including "Support us!" It's the $10 that's too much.

and it's 10$ just for early access. savin said on steam when game is out of it, it will cost even more.
p.s. I will say nothing more on that topic. I already said that more than needed yesterday.
