It has to be said, however, that a number of these solo devs are doing so by working themselves ragged, which will inevitably end in burnout, and is the reason behind there being so many abandoned games on this site.
The reason for many abandoned games are for any number of reasons.
- The developer swaps to more a different (more lucrative) game
- The patreon was nuked from low orbit by the staff
- Unknown reasons
- In-fighting
- Real life issues
- Not enough subscribers/dontations
- The games not very good
- The developer gets discouraged
For this website in particular, you can sort by past games, skim 3 pages worth, and tally the surprisingly high number of abandoned games that still have active developers who are making other games. I don't doubt some of the unknown reasons are due to the developer burning the candle at both ends, but a (now that I think of it, rather predictable) number of dropped projects are due to insufficient funds.
This next part is just conjecture with no basis.
I don't think
everybody that burns out on their project (that don't self report that is) are a result of working themselves raw. Sometimes you don't like your work. Sometimes it's not very good. Part of being a creative is learning to let your 'children' go.
Yes, so the corruption and Taint contained in the game name has become a complete joke.
To be fair, taint started as a 'joke'. It was never meant to be 1:1 analogous to corruption as it was meant to essentially be a punishment for straying too close to the sun for too long.
...Hmm. Though now that we're on it. I guess unique content for 100+ tainted PC's probably should have happened years ago. But, what could you possibly give them? You can already become a galotian. Being tainted, if the tainted rusher is anything to go by, is essentially your DNA turning you into a genetic dead end. That's all negative no matter how you slice it.
Speaking of favorite characters and quality of writing, does anyone remember the last time there was any progress on Cait's quests and content?
If you count building the temple of mallach as a furtherance of her quest, then the last Cait Quest addition was May 1, 2021.
If you don't count that nor sally, then it was March 8, 2021.
