Agree with this sentiment. That Sanders and Gweyr should be the bench mark for how strong we can be/become by the end of the game. It would help if we got a moment where we got to fight side by side with them briefly, and then afterwords the game establishes because of their age or some other reason why they can't be the ones out questing anymore. (Think it might already have been established. Not sure) They should be treated like Zero at the start of Mega-Man X and by time we reach the end we've completely surpassed them. Maybe just before the final battle we could fight them to learn our ultimate technique.Gweyr and sanders I get because they're the "old guard", and they've both had combat experience. Sanders the deus vult type while gweyrs the "they can't cast magic if their throats cut" type. They're both friends, allies and teachers and youre supposed to respect them and not want to fight them anyway. Like older legendary boxers that may have once growled and bit a man's ear off, that sort of thing. But besides those, they seem to want to basically do like a, I dunno, kingdom hearts is the easiest example I can think of gameplay wise, or devil may cry maybe where gameplay wise you can be the baddest mf'er on the continent, but a cutscenes happens and then a kobold beats your ass and cucks you. Eventually, when the level cap increases, you could literally be a master magician that's a something tailed kitsune, champion of a Lovecraft thingy, with legendary artifacts, but leofric will whimper and knock you out with his dong.
If they want their ocs they need to give them flaws and/or have them be doing stuff. Like lotr (by no means this is lotr) but if you have random op things around they are doing stuff, fighting in the west or the east, protecting the weak or holding back a side while you're cutting through the middle etc. As it stands they all look like they're just doing duke nukem quotes while in a bar and that creates the issue.
Also side note Dante has only lost to Vergil. No one else in the series was properly motivated to take him down. Bad ass in cutscene. Bad ass outside of them. (Also you might be able to convince me the Beowulf fight is a draw)
