I am curious as to what, if any, progress has been made in regards to the situation of modding this game. I know both Fenoxo and Savin have gone on record to say they won't support it officially, but that of course doesn't mean it's impossible.

It is entirely possible but no one is going to do it because the effort isn't worth it when you can just make your own game without all of the baggage. (there are some game-play mods)

Oh, believe me I've read the baggage. For what seems like such a loveless marriage people have between themselves and this game it's a wonder how someone hasn't gone and made some sort of spiritual successor without what one percieves as "the bullshit".
You'd also think that after constant years of up-and-down development and endless infighting, more people would have jumped the evidently half-sunk ship by now, players and creators alike.
Especially considering the reason for said ship being half sunk is the never ending attempts at scuttling by said captain/s of the ship, whether out of spite or sheer mental incompetence.

Because even tho there are valid complaints(and some less so) against this game it does have a lot of hard work put into it's creation. There have been game(s) from members of the dev team that have died so even with the experience of working on these types of games it's hard to keep them going.

There have been like half-a-dozen games heavily inspired by CoC/TiTs. (Liliths Throne, D.I.C.K., etc).
The thing is, as many questionable decisions have been made, there's still a lot of momentum behind these projects others can't keep up with. They all either flop, slowly limp along or just fly under the radar with a small fanbase.

Maybe if there was like a collective effort to produce a non-drama filled CoC spiritual successor as opposed to folks trying their own shots, I feel like it'd have a good shot for a bombastic run.
Come to think of it. I don't quite remember how the original CoC got famous. I got linked to it like a decade ago thinking the content would shock me or turn me off, and instead its very unfortunate that I vibed with it.
