Can't say I disagree with this. Even if we limit it to text based games there's a lot that just die, provide insufficient funds and are abandoned, the author gets tired, etc etc. I at least see CoC2 making it across the finish line... one way or another.
TiTS is in its final arc so, by virtue of not having far to go, it's going to make it to its hump as well.

Still, even if I generally agree, this should probably be stated that the vast majority of those dead or dying games didn't have a platform to advertise with alongside what was, at a point in time, the 4th biggest porn game on patreon. A solo developer still making 300 a month after 5 months of grinding it out is at a bit of a disadvantage.

To this day I don't understand the attempt. Even had she been finished, I believe William overestimated his skills to merge two aspects of things usually diametrically opposed into one character. Many have tried and just as many have failed. Unless you're slinging with the skills of siddha patiya pandita that's a hard fight to fight.

I feel Coc2 and Tits survive through inertia. They exist at that point where they have been active long enough to amass enough fans that they don't need to rush as funds are not an issue, so they don't. In a way, any other game with the same themes and in the same genre could take the spotlight but the thing is, no one else is doing it, as there's no reason to do it

It does happen with other games being rebooted eternally, there's a joke in other game where there are some graves and one of them is for the red room, but it's empty because, "It was resurrected again"

Coc2 instead just won't die and be born again, there's no need to reboot anything because as jumbled and slow it is being developed, it's still being developed. All these problems about companions having little content, or things being cut and butchered along the way or pushing for more padded content that some wealthy mysterious contributor paid for, well they are tolerated and almost expected. From time to time there's something good, but mostly, both Fen and Savin are limping to the finish line and instead of a last, heroic effort, are stopping every five seconds to talk about some senseless shit no one cares about and now to promote dildos. They can do it because they are running against no one, they win by default

Yeah, she was suppose to have a route where she become fuckbuddies with Cait if I recall correctly. Oh but you see it was "optional" the same way pairing all the other couples are "optional". I.E. most of the meat of the character was behind this route.

Say, to guys who were knee deep recording all of this when it went down, was it true that Will had basically written all of Einin except the parts where she was with the champ? I remember that little rumor making the rounds of /cocg/ back in the day.

One thing that always irked me about Will was how he'd go and promote his characters with comissioned art and hype and then just never delivered. That's really the part that makes it hard for me to fully act like Will was an innocent victim of Savin like some people say. Look. I know he really struggled with some things and he was pretty aware of his poor work ethic. But it did sort of feel scummy in a way.

I mean now look, how much art is there floating around of Bianca and Leila as if they're fully in the game? I know Bianca was a big reason why I even came back to TiTs after playing it five years ago, and now if we're lucky she's going to be given a half assed "expansion" and then have "complete" slapped on her. That's the best case scernario right now.

Oh well... Guess Will's characters will become like Excellia was to CoC....

It's a bit more nuanced then that. Will had "help" on a miscellaneous amount of scenes. He did write the whisper scene. But, most of the work being done to try and cram into the deadline was directly player facing. But because the work Will gave himself was a bit impossible in the time he allotted himself, I don't believe he ever got to the champ one-on-one sex scenes.

CoC2 updates frequently (except last month, heh.), with a wide range of content, and the fetishes it does cater to are in abundance. Nobody is getting ripped off supporting this game.

This isn't LT we're talking about where Inno's update about releasing the update would be released this weekend... three months ago.

Nah. There are way, way, waaay worse handled games on this site than either of these games. It's not even close.


Not gonna start naming names so soon after a nice modding, but until they start the dreaded "reboot the entire game from scratch" routine that some VERY popular games on this site have done, they're still above water imo.

The fact that this could apply to many games really does put things into perspective. The worst I've seen was a reboot from scratch into an entirely different genre of game with only 10% of the content and none of the good stuff, abandon that to make a whole new game, then abandon THAT and go radio silent.

As much as I enjoy complaining and poking holes in stuff, at least they're getting stuff done.

I'm having an issue where I'm playing the local version and the map icons keep disappearing. I have already deleted all local files including the stuff in /appdata/roaming and reinstalled everything and it still keeps happening. Anybody knows what could cause this or how to fix it?

edit: It sometimes works if you reload the game, but after clicking a few buttons the icons disappear again

If there is at least one thing I've come to understand when it's applied to people and things that appeal to a concept they like, it's that they'll eat shit and appreciate it.

I’m pretty sure that was the original plot-line. I distinctly recall hearing it said that Etheryn’s original story beat was a prince who had been feminized by his abusive older sister, which is the state you’d find them in, but as the story progressed, I think the writers got cold feet.

One of the only remaining nods to this in the entire game was Hethia’s lines to Etheryn in the quest where you rescue Garret, which are now unused, since Garret’s quest was changed to be mandatory.

I get why they changed it, but personally, I think it’s fucking lame. There was serious potential there, but Savin pussyfooted around the risk of offending people with less-than-perfect representation of ‘muh pretty dickgurl princess’.

Honestly, that’s kinda the issue on the larger scale. Just look at corrupted Khor’Minos getting axed; I guarantee you there was an element of ‘I bit off more than I could chew when planning’, but you can’t tell me nobody winced looking at the implications.

EDIT, because I’m not done:

The question of “how did things go wrong” compared to CoC1 (you know, the thing people have argued in circles over for hundreds of pages?) becomes pretty fucking clear when you extrapolate the earlier conclusion to this.

Times changed, people’s sensibilities (and sensitivities) shifted with them, and people didn’t want the darker aspects in a porn game, even when that porn game has a brand to keep.

No that's never been the case. Yes her sister abused her in the background but she was never a boy in the drafts.

Not sure, in the Primary Design Document (now deprecated) - at one point pretty sure Etheryn was listed as a Trap (i.e. a boy). We don't have access to the Version History of said Document, but there is still something that possibly points to Etheryn originally being planned as a Trap (not a "Shemale" / "Dickgirl").

Etheryn is still listed here as a Trap (along with Berwyn) - not a "Shemale", like Sheinnai (a Companion that seems unlikely to be added to the game).

This at least implies that the plans may have potentially changed for Etheryn (and other Companions).

Would be nice if we could 100% validate with a previous Version of the Primary Design Document though.

Yeah, plans definitely changed - as Sheinnai apparently got rejected, per Savin (https://forum.fenoxo.com/threads/what-content-would-you-like-added.13015/page-176#post-359748) - and based on the wording used, that's probably why Ashelander exists.

Etheryn has lived her whole life under her domineering, controlling older sister's thumb. Ages back, Alissa locked her in a magic chastity belt to make sure the royal bloodline was fully under the new Queen's control, and relegated her "sister" to little more than a handmaiden and sex-toy for herself.

The fact that sister is in quotations stands out - that seems to imply that things were possibly changed, as it doesn't necessarily make sense for that to be in quotations if they're referring to Etheryn by she or her everywhere else. That coupled with the stuff that was previously in the game with Hethia referring to Etheryn as a "princeling" seems to possibly re-inforce things changing from what was originally planned.

Doesn't matter at the end of the day though, but it's kind of funny now with how adamant people are about Ryn's identity all the time, when there definitely is sufficient context for it to be up for debate.
