Gweyr's quest was so fucking dumb I don't know how anyone on the writing team allowed that to pass. She had the ability to subdue those cult members but went unga bunga and became a murderer, and we can't call her stupid?

i haven't really cared keep up much with the constant drama that is going on between the writing team or whatever, but can someone give me a breakdown on why this Berwyn "Update" came to be?
Bullshit gimmick dungeon and terrible quest ending choice aside they actually kind of give me what I wanted in the end and that's an actual relationship dynamic with Berry, instead of him just hating having sex with a male player character. I however don't know why the reason for removing him from the party and tying him into the camp system a system that I never use because i play a white mage, have Cait in my party 24/7 and always have a way stone activated in every area. Why not just have his quest item just you teleport you to him at any time like Kiyoko's amulet.
I guess keeping him to one place would make writing scenes for him easier considering the body changes and all, but fuckin Berry was the one male companion i had and kept taking on my team now I only got Brint who's practically been replaced by Brienne and godamn Quintillus, I DONT FUCKIN LIKE QUIN, who even uses Quin? If there was any fuckin character that could use a update that removes them from the party it'd be Quintillus.

Dissatisfaction with the game for the whole year and longer finally took it's toll. They decided to stop.

Surely the devs respond to all of this backlash, right? Have they already? Just looking at steam, the recent reviews went from "very positive" to "mixed". From what I've gathered this seems like the biggest backlash the devs have received for an update, with places that would normally be very supportive seemingly upset as well.
Mainly I just hope that the devs publicly and privately apologize to HugsAlright, or if they think he has misrepresented what actually happened, they come out with evidence that his behavior truly justified removing him from the writing team, although I do think that going against his explicit wishes for Berwyn to remain male is unjustifiable, and super fucking lame. I also really hope this backlash serves as some kind of wake up call to the devs, now that they realize they can't just do anything and get away with it.

They have responded to it on their Discord and forums, but not really anything other than "this is how it had to be, sorry".
Doubt they will, either. Recent reviews on Steam are a drop in the bucket, still at 94% positive overall.
Probably definitely not happening.
This will probably have 0 effect on their income.
TiTs removed incest scenes from its game, and that caused a WAY bigger stink than this. It ultimately did nothing, people moved on. For better or for worse, this won't do anything except possibly, maybe cause them to give more of a heads up if this exact situation ever happens again.
Nothing should stop you from enjoying a product as it is subjective. My biggest gripe has been that it is very mediocre with little over sight for a product bringing in that much money.

Sadly most likely true, think the only thing that could do that is a competitor appearing, which... well, I can hope! Wonder how hard a game like this would be to make... And you're right that the devs will never apologize to HugsAlright, but they should, and not doing so just proves how pathetic and childish they are, which isn't surprising because everyone who seems to spend a lot of time writing/drawing/creating porn seems to have a terminal case of "I don't know how to be a functioning member of society or a real human being with compassion for others"

They're only getting a wake up call if those sweet patreon dollars just up and stop flooding their wallets one day, which is just not happening because they have no real competition, so they can get away with everything.
I believe it's become more than evident that anything that is said outside of their collective hug box doesn't mean shit to them (and if something bad is said in it, they silence it anyway). I mean, what's next, cutting Brint off from the game entirely? Brienne is the people's favorite by far so why not? Just let everyone get Brienne from the start as if Brint had never existed and bam, less work for them.
The only option we have at this point is to wait for this farce to be completed (or half baked, if coc 1 is any indication of how they "work") and then let the modders redact the bad contentwhich is most of it and get started on creating the real game, assuming that even they want to so much as look at it by that point. I certainly wouldn't. Not because I don't want to spite them (oh, the irony) or improve the game, no, but because I don't want to bring any more attention to the game and giving them undue credit as devs and writers by essentially turning their turd into a gold bar via my hard, unpaid work.

Real competition is unlikely.
The biggest advantage of these games, and simultaneously the cause of most of its problems, is the community. Everyone writing for the game came from the community at some point. It's the resource that all of these game draw on to put out the content that they do.
Halfway decent writers don't grow on trees, let alone whole teams of them. And the money to pay several writers sits at a level most games won't reach until years in.
CoC2 had a community and fanbase that ramped up from the first CoC, to Tits, kinda with FoE, to CoC2, and it took well over a decade. It's in a unique position.
Imo, you couldn't create anything directly competing with it without cash up front and at least a few talented writers with a long term comittment.
A few writers from TiTs tried to brach off and do their own thing with Cloud 10 - it flopped.
There are a few other text based type games in the same vein, but none of them are even close in popularity. Lilith Throne is never going to be an actual competitor to CoC2.
Without knowing how it actually went down, this isn't really something I can agree with.
