I know Wsan moved from TiTS to CoC2 full time but with the way Savin was replying to the reactions in the thread Will seems to be done with those people.

tbf that's how Savin responds to everybody. Just either doesn't confirm shit or acts like a doomer when it comes to what they're worried about.

if you’re talking about which crates to stake out it’s the ones with the blood red labrys. The quest says axe but varena says labrys. It’s more half implemented content so it’s hardly worth your time

I managed to sort of figure it out. after a number of failed attempts i started the quest from the beginning. i noticed that some of the crates are moved to different locations. then it was a bit of trial and error with a splash of save and reload.
