does it really matter what it's called? you'd still complain if it were "inspired by CoC" or if it had no mention of it.
That's always an unfortunate stance to read.

Comparisons would be as inevitable as they would be unfavorable sure as was the nature of reviews that any text based game went through for a time. However, expectations would be different and they would be tapered.

TiTS carried a lot of heat for years both early into launch and now. However, the nature of said complaints were mostly different. I know this because somebody made a similar complaint that 'not being CoC1 was a major complaint TiTS had and it carried the same complaints as CoC2... And I went on to check the validity of that statement over by viewing over 400 pages of forum discussion.

TiTS doesn't get (many) complaints about not being CoC1, adjacent, or a sequel to. But then again it never said it was going to be.
Not even when it was still just a dream and a crowdfunding campaign on offbeatr.

Ironically it still provided many of the things you would want sans corruption. Given it's robust TF system and general relationship dynamics outside of the Savin characters.

CoC2 however advertised itself as quite literally a true sequel

And to make sure it's known this isn't out of context: Here's your first (official) public announcement.
Except CoC2 is no more a sequel of CoC1 than the Witcher: Blood Origin is a prequel to the Witcher.
Or I guess Rings of Power is a more apt comparison as that one was verifiably a hit. So was Velma now that I think on it.

Anyways the major point being that when you call yourself a direct/true sequel you are opening up a hell of a lot of comparisons that are going to be unavoidable. Explaining how this game falls short of the expectations one would have of a sequel goes beyond the scope of this post.

Though a small tangent
Most importantly, CoC2 Development won’t interfere with TiTS Development.
Boy did that end up not being true. Ha.

Now that you mention TiTS, I'm curious about what are/were people's complaints about the game? At least from a cursory examination, the game seems better designed and actually lets players express themselves, but also runs into the same problem of "Oh my god there are so many fucking horse-cocked futas."

I totally understand what you're saying, and I mostly agree with it. My point is more that the complaints wouldn't stop regardless of what its called, in fact i'd guess the complaints would shift from "this isn't a actual sequel to CoC" to "why didn't you make a sequel to CoC" or "you should have kept making CoC instead of this".

I'm curious about what are/were people's complaints about the game?
For me the main 2 things are the excessive sex and complete lack of shame the entire setting has, and the game having extremely little relationship depth with 95% of the characters(which is a consequence of the former). After a while you just become desensitized to all that shit and at that point, the game doesn't give you a reason to care about it anymore. These 2 things have been made the new standard and brought over to CoC2 which again, makes me not care about the game very much.

in fact i'd guess the complaints would shift from "this isn't a actual sequel to CoC" to "why didn't you make a sequel to CoC" or "you should have kept making CoC instead of this".
These are pretty big reaches and I don't even know what makes you think people would think this. I... can't think of a time where someone is mad that a dev team starts a new IP rather than making an unnecessary sequel, and CoC stopped updating a while before CoC2 got announced, right? Why would anybody say they should restart on that when TiTS was the main project with all the traction?

What.

All the time, constantly.

Respawn went so far as to shadowdrop Apex Legends, because they knew everyone would be mad they weren't making Titanfall 3.

People are constantly mad about that kinda thing.
exactly, people just like to complain

The possibly correct argument would be "you should continue working on TiTS instead of this".

Thought a way they could technically solve the issue is to call CoCII a CoC reboot for modern audiences.

For me its 2 things really.I dont like how the devs dont understand what it truly is.What i mean is that this is a porn game with all the hardcore fetishes one can ask of BUT it thinks that we care about the story and the gameplay which no one cares. So they dedicate weeks upon weeks of updates on making minute changes on the gameplay/lore.Second thing is the fact that there is no soul in these characters.I dont care if the game is purely futadom but would it kill you to create a character with some personality, some hobbies, maybe some morals?Sex is good and all but make your characters feel more human and not just vessels to check the X fetish box.

Intro implies that demonic magic able to seep through portal. View attachment 3017563
'Tainted' have several meanings, but in this context, I think, it have 'corrupted' context. 'growing warmth on your groin' also implies this.
So it could have possibly be retrofitted with 'demons charge batteries of old man using magic for exchange of sacrifice'.
Thinking back about it, coc2 could have been possible to teleport kas even with such restrictions.
Remember caits sister what the fuck is her name and how she was sacrificed by throw into the portal?? It could be done the other way. Instead of 'one in - one out' rule, that ruins that trifle of world building there are, she could have been used as a 'vessel' for kas...soul is not an option, since she lack one, so consciousness or something...essence. Nothing physical cant leave maret -> magic/soul/essence/whatever is not a physical thing -> it can escape maret -> with a loud creak, but lore now fully consistent with previous 'game'.
It also makes option to not kill demonic dong a bit more grounded, since in this case shes a victim of circumstance not a literal daemon from sexual furry hell.
Also caits plead 'pls get back my sister pretty pls pls pls' becomes more sensible and attainable because in its current form its 'jump into the portal to hell to get soul cube my sister back' or how savs planning to take her back? Or she under the rug now and mentioning her cause instant ban?
