Spoiler warning! - This dev log contains a follow up discussion to the spoiler content in the last one.

Hey guys, welcome the first of the short dev logs as I wade through the rendering for 0.12.

I've had another good burst of production over the last couple of weeks: The script is now complete, coming in at 31,000 words, which puts it just a little bit short of the record holding 0.10. The script has also finished going through the proofreading process, and I'm now getting stuck in to the renders, having completed the first hundred or so.

Next, I want to talk briefly again about the time skips that I mentioned in the last dev log. A lot of you left detailed feedback about the subject, and it was all very useful, though it did make me realise that I really should have put more details in the dev log!

The main issue I want to clear up, is that some people seemed to get the impression that the game is ending soon: It isn't! Or that when the time skips start, they will all be close together and rush the game right to the end: They won't!

The time skips will be used to connect together long chapters of detailed day-by-day story progression, just like the game has had so far. So, to give an example, the game is currently 26 days long (as of 0.11). If I were to do the first time skip right now, it would then go to Christmas (in game) and then you would read another block of 26 (for example) days, just like the first 26.

So, if anything, I worry that I'm being too ambitious with the scope of my plan - each skip is going to have a year or two dev time worth of content between them, essentially splitting the game into chapters. So think of it like we're currently in chapter 1, "The Beginning"

Then chapter 2 will be "Christmas at the cafe", which may well end up containing just as much content as chapter 1.

Then chapter 3 will be "graduation", which will probably be a little shorter, but still significant.

Then chapter 4 will be "Culinary school" which may well end up being the longest chapter that finally leads into the ending.

So rest assured - I am in no way trying to rush through Cosy Cafe. I'm in it until the story is done, and done properly!

And with that cleared up, that about does it for this one. If any of you have any further questions about the time skip thing, or anything else, please feel free to contact me here or on discord!

Until next time - thanks for your support!

based on my calculations...
it should be out just before May, just a nice birthday gift for me

and the first time skip should be happening just after all the main girls pledged to be in team Fletcher
and yes, i include the pet

Just started this VN, does the dev know how to show emotions on the faces?
He does, but they are subtle, see this post for more details.
As far as I am aware facial expressions in HS 2 are as easy as clicking a button, so the expressions being more subtle, like they are in this VS, is probably a stylistic choice. Which I think is used to great effect.

To add to that post, often times when a character in Cosy Cafe has that "emotional" look in their eyes its because in some way or another their world view is being challenged, not every time of course, but its a substantial amount. When MC calls Sarah cute for instance, she thinks she is anything but attractive or cute, similar thing to every time the MC says he likes spending time with Lucy in the early sections, or some events with Victoria further down the line.

I just looked through quite a few of the images yet again and they seem to show enough emotion to me. Maybe it's just a matter of paying attention? Like when you ignore everything written on the thread and just go with your sudden desire to show that dev how lame his work is?

Yep, this. The facial expressions were definitely more limited early on when I didn't know what I was doing, but the way they are now is by design, and it does take just as much time/effort this way.

I feel a big part of the charm of this game is the nuanced subtlety of expressions.
Ding ding ding! ...But that's also the 'problem' that leads to a lot of posts that completely miss the forest for the trees, since nuance and sublety are foreign concepts to the mouth-breathing teenaged boys and trolls who make up a sizeable % of posters online.

Okay, weird "question". I don't know if has been asked before. But. What are the names of the songs in the game? I know I heard one somewhere else, and I kinda want them on my playlist for relaxing.

Just go into your Cosy Cafe game folder, then navigate to the game folder, and finally into the audio folder. You'll find all the songs there, though they have generic names

Last one took 3,5 months and has been there mid December. With Cosy having some rest after Christmas, quick guess would be end of March. His last DevLog said writing was finished and rendering started, so we just have to wait for the next DevLog (as every 2 weeks) for the next progress info.

People are arguing about the lack of emotions in character models?
Interesting... I've never even noticed the supposed lack until it was pointed out... and I still don't understand what's the problem...

Rachel start being integrated as a LI
I dread that day...
That's probably Akari. And IMHO it's very unlikely MC wins the cooking match before making sufficient progress in his culinary education. Unless Sara makes some exceptionally tempting skimpy outfit for her to wear and Akari just forfeits the match

Different people have different expectations.
Perhaps some expect anime-level of expressivity. Something like this:

personally i'm not against Rachel coming in as long as she drops the attitude, but i understand people who'd still wouldn't want her even then, first impressions do matter.

and yes it should've been Akari and i don't think a raunchy outfit would be enough, her pride as a chef won't let her and this is something she actually already said.

Yeah, I remember her saying that.

That's why I phrased it as:
exceptionally tempting
In my mind that could be enough to have an unlikely chance to speed things up. But yeah, a speculation it is
