Sarah and Catherine only say Annabelle's not from a main family. Could easily be that she's from a branch family. Related to the main families but outside of the line of succession or ruling circle. There were too many people at the function for them to all be in the ruling circle and with all of the polygamy there's way too many children born into the families to keep them all in the main family's line of succession. I don't think Cosy's expanded on the politics of succession but I suspect after being detached to the line for a generation or two a person in the family would be considered a branch family member rather than a main one. Then they'd likely still be invited to functions and potentially involved in match making but unless they marry into a main family wouldn't have an avenue to join the ruling council.
Just my personal interpretation of it all though.
But why is she treating Catherine and Sarah with so much respect then? If she was in the families, even as a side branch, surely she wouldn't have to. Catherine I can maybe understand seeing as she is a first daughter, but Sarah is the daughter of the 4th wife and the lowest on the Hamilton ladder according to herself.

She could just be a very polite person. Whether raised specifically to honor all family members regardless of rank, or just naturally deferential and respectful. Or she could be overly polite around the MC because she wants to make a good impression on us. We've only had like three conversations with her so far, and I don't recall if she's had much interaction with anyone not from a Founding Family, so it's hard to say whether this is her default attitude or if there's something deeper.

Sarah might be the last daughter of the last wife, but she is still a main family member, making her stand above any branch family one by quite a lot. Simply put by nobility rules she is Annabelle's better and that's it. At least that's my take on it. But I won't be surprised if we see Annabelle call Victoria "Miss Victoria". The girl is just way too well-behaved and they should really put some padding on all the corners and table edges if she is to hang around the main cast - while I doubt she would be scandalized like an old hag, I won't be surprised if she is shocked by how everyone in Team Fetcher behaves, even without the sexula parts..

You mean the future wife of the head of the Fletcher household? The people treating Sarah with disrespect are playing a very stupid game.
Besides that a branch family who can only rise to relevance through marriage absolutely would be subordinate to any main family. They wouldn't care who's last name it is, they all provide the same potential value and being impolite to one just makes it all the more likely they'd fade into obscurity.

But there is treating FF people with respect like the head functionary and his staff did to Jack, and then there is the kind of respect that Catherine shows to Sarah. Annabelle is much more like the former.

Catherine and Sarah who are rivals for their future husbands love and Catherine being of an even higher station within her family than Sarah. Different power dynamics breed different demonstrations of respect.
Assuming she is a branch family member Annabelle would be just as subservient to the main family members of any of the families as the head functionary is.

People don't have to react like Catherine towards others in the FF. Many probably do react that way due to the political structure and nature of the families but people can treat others with respect even if they feel they are above or below their social ranking. Catherine was also home tutored for most of her education so her whole upbringing was to be "trained" as a first daughter of a FF.

love this VN but wish Developer would stop making us store two copies of save data for this VN, the one in Game folder is sufficient, I don't need another copy cluttering up my App Data Folder, plus it's keeping an extra copy for save upload which I don't use or need .

Granted this is a small amount of space but it all adds up when you have 500 games, VNs that may be doing the same thing.
I occasionally go in to app data just to delete all of these double copies that are a waste of space. I understand some may prefer this and some may depend on it, but most of us know to copy old saves over to a new update install when needed.

That's not a developer thing, it's a Ren'Py thing. I'm not even sure if devs can change it from doing that.

If this showed before completing the update, that could be a bug.

That's not a developer thing, it's a Ren'Py thing. I'm not even sure if devs can change it from doing that.
I am sure it wouldn't be too hard to mod Ren'Py to remove this behavior, but nobody would expect it. People would be losing their save files:
  • either when transferring the game from their old computer to their new one, expecting the game directory to include the save files,
  • or when deleting the game before installation of the new version, expecting the save files to be stored outside the game directory
Ren'Py just magically does the right thing under both these circumstances. So long as you don't want to do anything unusual (such as deleting your progress without doing it manually file by file from the game, or replacing the game with a new version on a computer before playing the game there even once), there is no need to think about save files.
