"DEV UPDATE #9:
Working on a bunch of things at the same time including:
Storycrafting
Storyboarding
Dialogue Sprites
Enemy battlesprite sketches
STORYCRAFTING-
I wrote the general story for CK8 a while ago, before Eld had released. Touched it up and changed a few things for a more cohesive story.
STORYBOARDING-
Fleshed out the majority of events that will occur and what order in which they will occur - this is important to know what kind of assets will be needed before coding the story can begin.
DIALOGUE SPRITES-
For dialogue in CK8, I will be using a hybrid system, which will show sprites in a specific manner depending on whether or not a cutscene is displayed in the background. If there is no cutscene, the sprites will be shown in full display (as they are in Eld, for example). When a cutscene is present, mini portraits will be used so as not to detract from the image in the background."
For this, I needed to redraw/update a significant number of dialogue sprites to show more of the character's body. In addition to changable brows, mouth, eyes, and extra layers, I am also adding arms to the list, which means that dialogue sprites will occasionally have different poses as seen below. A lot of these are being redrawn from scratch as the originals were as dated as existing in CK1 (cough Soriel cough)
ENEMY BATTLESPRITES
I have completed the sketches for the battle sprites for all enemies in game.
At this point, dev updates will not have too much specific information because I do not like spoiling story elements too much, lest everyone's enjoyment suffer. Please forgive ever increasing levels of obscurity as development continues.
