Unfortunately since Flash "died" they never worked well on Newgrounds anymore, with a bunch of issues caused by their new player not being fully compatible with the game, that's why moving to Unity can bring new light to the series and allow more people to learn about it and enjoy playing them.
Don't quote me on that, since I played quite a while ago (on NG), but back then you could just edit the save files and figure out which part represent which values. (PS : maybe he changed the encryption, I don't remember playing every chapter)

Well. if you managed to reach this far without help then I'm sure you can handle it, you will just need to get used to the new system and pay attention to some new "troubles" and you will be fine.

i used it because i usually lost my save between chapter and didnt very much like the default restart between them.The need to cheat I don't get anyway? I remember I had to grind a bit at a certain point, but that was to get all items from the shop, not for battle stats. (I still had (have) 2 chapter or so to go however, maybe it'll get hard?

When I try to download the .exe files, regardless of site, it warns me about there being a malware in the file. Is it normal, or should I wait for it to get fixed?

It's all because of Flash dying, since they are still based on it even if they got "build" into an .exe file some systems and antivirus will give false positives towards them.
But if you don't trust the .exe files you can download the .swf files instead, just download the Flash player and run them using it.
(No point waiting for them to be fixed because that's what already happens for some people with the official files downloaded from the official Discord server, but you know how this works if you want to be 100% safe just don't download/execute what you don't trust).

Current chapter (8) is being Made in a new Engine (Unity), future chapters will also be made on it.
After all chapters required to conclude the current Arc are done (that will happen with chapter 10) previous chapters will be also Rebuild in Unity and added to the others ones in a single game.
New chapters will not be released in single version like the previous ones but instead will be added to chapter 8 as updates.
Earlier chapters build in Flash will suffer major changes to contain all mechanics and QoL features from latest versions (plus some extra content and changes).

that's great to here but as someone who has never played this game before and has been waiting a little while, it sounds like i still have a ways to go before it is ready to be enjoyed from beginning to end.
You could play chapter 1 while waiting, that way you will be able to compare the new stuff and the old stuff.

A mod from the Discord Server predicted that the remaining 3 chapters should be finished before the end of next year but the problem is what comes next, the dev have another project on hold (called Eld) that he worked on before to get familiarized to the Unity Engine and he may decide to go back to it before remaking the remain chapters.
So yeah, it can take a while but if you are really interested you should give the Flash chapters a try, they are very experimental and because of that you will see many differences between them with new mechanics being introduced/replaced but some of the core elements like the Art and History remain at a high quality from the beginning to the end, the challenge tho will increase exponentially so testing this versions is a good way to know if you may like the new version or not (even if said version will suffer some changes that can lead to a very different experience).
Personally I had fun following the game and seeing it evolution with each new chapter, other people are not so happy with the constant introduction of changes and new elements so if that's you case you should wait.

I played this game times ago and waited for chp 8 very long. I'm new to this game's thread so can someone explain why was this abandoned?

It received the abandoned label per f95 rules. This game is still being worked on and you can find out some info about current plans if you scrolled up a few posts.

The chapters are pretty long, playing them all at once when the full game comes out might be a chore. Before I tried that I and got bored by a third one. I certainly do not regret playing them one by one with breaks in-between. I think I enjoyed them more that way.
Also It might take more time than expected, and by the time it comes out you might want to play it once more. At least that's what i plan to do, coz it's worth it.
