I respect the fact you are a creator, but most of what you write is completely off.
Part of this phrase (after the first comma), is the only part that is really on the spot - if people feel DL is trying to get too much out of it, they should wait and subscribed only temporarily when it is completed, in order to get it for a more reasonable price.
The indication I had for prices, compounded on the expected time or finalisation, ended up meaning various hundreds of dollars of final cost (I had estimated around 600 USD when I had one my estimate) and years to wait, that is why I did not subscribed myself, though that does not mean automatically that when it is finished people will be able to subscribe e.g. one month and get it for a more reasonable price, even if the subscription is not cheap (I remember vaguely there is a game for which the subscription is around 70USD a month, and does not get updated often).
AFAIK it was true for Lara, it is not said it will be true for Rey.
If they are paying for something, it is normal that people have expectations and rights, especially should be confirmed that DL is actually making a living out of it - it is different when someone provides something for free in their free time.
You are also forgetting there are people here who did subscribe or are subscribing (that is how the "previews" get diffused here), and that this forum is also about talking about the work of the author and how it works.
Plus, you may feel touched and obliged to defend him because you are both creators, but you are you, DL is DL.
Unless you have full information and fully accurate about his situation and a number of parameters (in which case you should provide specific information and not general screaming) you are in no better conditions than anybody else with some basic information to express opinions about the situation.
I did programming, video editing, 3d rendering, and I am an IT person, but aside eventual references to cost of software license, or whether an hardware configuration can allow to use certain tools or render content at a certain speed when those are mentioned, i.e. cases where specific information is provided and I can provide a specific technical comments on that information based on my knowledge, I do not use that as excuse to go around blasting around.
You should do the same.
Everyone of us when creating something has the right to be proud of it, a girl I knew would say "porn is also art" (debatable depending on the content and period, I would say, but that is also an opinion), but the idea that being an artist means being above any criticism is typical of the artistic sector or people who like to see themselves as artist (though in general, they consider themselves and the category above any criticism, but have no problem heavily criticising other artist that are in competition, often behind their back), is only valid for the part about expressing oneself, and only if the there isn't someone else footing the bill
Incidentally, "extortion subscribers" ("extorting subscribers", but the concept was clear) is something that nobody is saying AFAIK, and nobody could say, because extortion requires the use of threats or violence, the only violence DL is doing AFAIK is to the characters in his videos (or better, he is not doing it directly, is having ogres/Rancors, etc. do it

), so, definitively extortion/extorting are wrong words to use, they even create a funny effect.
You write to do the "white knight defends DL", and then end up insulting him by accusing him of committing a crime (extortion) :-D
