Oh, I'm a big fan of Japanese porn, and I can say that the same actors have been working in this industry for years; it's an established niche that brings in good money thanks to fans and the attachment to certain actors.
One day, sections dedicated to tranny/futa appeared on websites. Not a single famous actor, minimal views. Someone spent a ton of money producing these films for a niche where they're not popular, and I find it hard to believe that someone spends a ton of money for anything other than making money.
The same inexplicable things happen in 3D production. You can make a lot of money on classics, but then there's goblin-themed gay porn that's better quality than most classics, and which likely required a ton of effort and investment.
